Facilities & Services

SEABA Heliski Weeks, Haines Alaska
Wagner Custome Skis
Big Sky has all the required facilities and services for skiers and snowboarders. Due to the sheer enormity of the slopes of the Big Sky Ski Resort and the sprawling villages and neighbourhoods, the amenities are not all centralised and in one easy to get to location.

Big Sky Ski Rentals, Snowboard Equipment

Big Sky Sports is the resort owned provider of ski and snowboard equipment rentals, and has slopeside locations in Mountain Village and Madison Village. You can store your rental equipment overnight.

For high performance equipment rentals, head to the lobby of The Summit Hotel (and have a laugh at what the bellman are wearing!).

The resort shops can deliver rental equipment to your lodging and there are another couple of companies that provide the same service.

Down the mountain in Town Center, there are various shops that also offer Big Sky ski rentals and snowboard hire.

Eating On Mountain

For such a large ski resort, it’s surprising that there are limited on-mountain dining options (or bathroom facilities) and there’s only one option for a self-serve cafeteria. Perhaps it’s because most folks ski-in to their manor for lunch or to one of the private clubs?

Everett’s 8800 is located at the top of the Ramcharger lift which provides a nice lunch that’s not outrageously priced considering the setting. However the restaurant is so close to Mountain Village that you might as well ski or snowboard down the run where you can choose from various options such as a lovely lunch at the Summit Hotel or cheap grab and go food in the mall.

Shedhorn Grill is a small yurt over the back side that has very basic fare. It’s not the best spot to warm up on a cold day and you have to use a Portaloo.

Headwaters Grille (I like the way they put an “e” on the end to sound fancy) is a large yurt at the Madison base. It’s a nice setting, but we found the service to get a cooked meal was soooo slow that we gave up and grabbed a salad instead, and it wasn’t even a busy day.

Facilities for Children

Lone Peak Playhouse is located in the Snowcrest Lodge and provides child care for 6 months to 8 year olds. Childcare can be for the morning, afternoon or full day. Children 2 plus years can have a ski lesson incorporated into the day. There is also childcare at Moonlight Basin Madison base via the ski school.

Evening babysitting can be arranged through Big Sky Resort’s Concierge.

Big Sky Ski School

There are two different Big Sky ski school offerings from the Mountain Village base and the Madison Village (Moonlight Basin).

Both ski schools offer the standard gamut of snowsports tuition offerings including group lessons, private lessons, specialty clinics, and adaptive snowsports via a third party. The ski schools also run the intermediate first tracks program and guiding services that include first tracks. You have to pay big bucks for the privilege of getting to the powder first, which seems to be a growing trend at many US ski resorts.
