Nebelhorn Ski Resort Germany

With ski lifts directly out of the fantastic town of Oberstdorf, Nebelhorn may be quite popular but has a tantalising dark side to its terrain. The long skiable vertical of over 1,400m is not for the faint hearted, but will delivery you right back down into Oberstdorf.

Heading up from Oberstdorf from a miserly 813m altitude on the ultra-modern Nebelhorn I gondola, one could be forgiven for thinking you were at a great Austrian mega-resort, such are the facilities. Changing to the Nebelhorn II gondola at Seealpe (1,280m) the illusion continues (oh, and despite what some other websites may say, you DO need to change cabins to continue the journey on Nebelhorn II - it is not a single continuous line). Approaching the massive station at Höfatsblick (1,932m), the bubble bursts a little as one sees the ancient Sonngehren double chair, serving steep terrain below, and the shortish Koblat quad, providing access to 200m vertical of easy on and off-piste terrain above. The Koblat quad will be replaced by a fancy state of the art six-seater for season 26/27. Its heated seats & weather bubbles will sooth the bottoms of those exposed to the elements on the 40yr+ old Sonngehren chair.

Reviews & More Info

The Powderhounds reviewed Nebelhorn and the broader Oberstdorf-Kleinwalsertal ski region in January & February 2026. We adored Oberstdorf and in January we skied cold, dry powder on Nebelhorn during the peak season at Christmas/New Year, whereas during late in February it was chowder. Neither visit saw us gain the summit due to high winds, so we will have to return! Click on the review link in the left column (or top of the page if on a mobile) to read all the reviews.
