Jahorina Ski Resort Bosnia & Herzegovina
Jahorina ski resort is the largest in Bosnia and Herzegovina and close to the well-known capital of Sarajevo. With a Winter Olympics pedigree shared with the nearby Bjelasnica ski resort, you just know there will be some great on-piste skiing at Jahorina.
A major change to the skiing here, and for the entire country, is the linking of Jahorina with the smaller Ravna Planina ski resort by a lengthy gondola. The new gondola will improve access for day-trippers from nearby Sarajevo to Jahorina when traffic is heavy and remove the need to use the more questionable mountain roads. The connection between the ski resorts will come via a new 10-seater gondola called Pale II, running north of the Jahorina ski area base for 5½km and across a high forested plateau to the top of Ravna Planina.
Skiing & Snowboarding, Lifts & Terrain
The 52km of ski trails at Jahorina is three times more than any other ski area in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Its relatively modest highest lifted point of 1,890m is second in the country to the nearby Bjelašnica (a.k.a. Babin Do) ski area (at 2,067m). The resort’s 18 ski lifts serve 590m of skiable vertical and include 2 modern gondolas & 4 6-seater chairs.
Before we get there to see it for ourselves, check out the Jahorina Ski Trail Map below.
Where is Jahorina Bosnia Herzegovina?
Jahorina is in the centre of the mountains in Bosnia and Herzegovina not far from the capital of Sarajevo. The Adriatic Sea is just 120km kilometres away to the west of the ski resort. From Sarajevo Airport (SJJ), Jahorina is 30km (45min drive) away. From the centre of Sarajevo to Jahorina is 28km (40min drive) via the M5 motorway and the outskirts of Pale. When the new gondola at Ravina Planina is finished, road access to Jahorina could be all the way via Pale on the M5 motorway except for final 700m!
Jahorina Accommodation
A range of high-quality hotels & apartments line the base of the main lifts in Jahorina resort village. At one end 4-star hotels like Termag Hotel Jahorina, Hotel Rajska dolina Jahorina, Aparthotel Poljice and Apart-hotel Pahulja are all near the Poljice gondola. Further up the road the near the base of the Rajska six-seater chair are the Horizont Aparthotel Jahorina and Hotel Lavina.
