Alberta Ski Resorts

The province of Alberta has various major ski areas.

The highest profile ski resorts in Alberta are those located near the gorgeous town of Banff. Sunshine Village (which also partially sits in BC) is a large Banff ski resort and a very popular powder skiing destination. Lake Louise is also located near Banff, has huge terrain, and phenomenal views. The poor cousin of Norquay makes up the trio of Banff ski resorts.

Other high profile Alberta ski resorts include Marmot Basin in the very picturesque Jasper National Park near the town of Jasper, and Castle Mountain, which is 250km south of Calgary.

Low on the priority list for powder hounds due to limited natural snow is Nakiska, which is only 45 minutes drive from Calgary.

A huge drawcard for skiing in Alberta at these Rockies resorts is the amazing scenery, and both the ski resorts in Alberta and associated towns are very pretty.

There are also lots of other Alberta ski resorts in the north of the province and in the Edmonton region, although they’re unlikely to capture the attention of powder hounds.

Cat Skiing Alberta

There are two Alberta cat skiing outfits which are nice for powder hounds, but they’re not in the same league as the BC cat skiing operations.

Powder Stagecoach is a cat skiing outfit that operates adjacent to the Castle Mountain Ski Resort, and utilises one of the chair lifts as well as the snowcat to access the terrain.

Kpow is a small cat skiing outfit located at the former Fortress Mountain.

Heli Ski Alberta

There is no heli skiing in Alberta and definitely no heli skiing in Banff National Park. For those staying in Lake Louise or Banff, there is heli skiing at Kicking Horse that is close enough for an easy day trip. RK Heli Ski is another option for heli skiing near Banff.
