Golm Ski Resort Austria
Golm ski resort is one of those cheeky places that could provide the ultimate experience for budding powder or groomer hounds. One of several ski resorts near Bludenz in Vorarlberg western Austria, Golm has few international visitors & is definitely worth a look on a storming powder day, as are its neighbours, Brandnertal, Silvretta Montafon & Gargellen.
Pros & Cons for Golm Ski Resort
Pros
- A lusty skiable vertical of over 1,400m.
- Modern, efficient lift system.
- Long top to bottom piste trails.
- Fabulous accessibility via Vandans by train & bus, plus easy to drive to the lift base by car.
- Exceptionally good value lift pass price as part of Ski Arlberg;
- High quality accommodation in nearby villages.
- Loads of on-mountain restaurant seating and traditional Austrian fare.
Cons
- Extremely low elevation base means lower third of the mountain may lack natural snow for much of winter.
- Limited, quality freeride terrain.
- Smallish piste trail offering that can feel a little repetitive quite quickly.
- The upper terminus’ for both main chairlifts are awkwardly located and can get quite crowded and difficult to get away from safely.
Pro or Con (depending on your perspective!)
- Multi-day lift pass includes nearby ski areas like the excellent Silvretta Montafon and Gargellen.
- The resort is divided in part by a massive hydro pipe running down the centre. You can decide whether it is a bit of a novelty or just a nuisance & eyesore .
Skiing & Snowboarding, Lift & Terrain
The Golm skiing & snowboarding terrain includes a lusty 1,450m of skiable vertical on a north-easterly aspect, with around 27km of pistes & a further 18km of ski routes that reach all the way into the valley. The main ski lifts include 8-person gondolas with modern cabins, 2 x 6-person chairlifts and 2 x quad chairs. Highest lifted altitude is 2,124m on the Golmer Joch and the base is an extremely low 650m, but that doesn’t matter too much. The longest ski run at Golm runs the entire 1,450m vertical over a length of over 9km. Classically BIG skiing in a 'small' Austrian ski resort - just the way we like it. Check out the ski trail map below.
Lift Passes
All ski lift passes are dynamically priced online, so if you buy at the cash desk, you will pay the latest online price. There is a 'Green Pass' single day lift pass that includes public transport travel from anywhere in Vorarlberg, and from St. Anton (Tirol), Lindau (Germany) or Buchs/St. Margrethen (Switzerland). Multi-day lift passes of 2-days duration (or more) are called a WildPass. With your WildPass ski lift ticket, one can ride all the local ski resorts including Golm, Brandnertal, and two of the Powderhounds' favourites, Silvretta Montafon and Gargellen. Check out where they are all are on the regional map below.
Where is Golm Austria?
The valley stations of Golm ski resort are near the village of Vandans located about 13km (10min by car) southeast of Bludenz in Vorarlberg state, Austria. The ski resort is perfectly placed for access by public transport. Vandans railway station can be reached from Bludenz (or Schruns in the other direction) by train, with services departing every hour through the day. From Vandans station, the route 621 or 623 buses will get you to the ski lift at the ‘Vandans Golmerbahn’ stop in short order (the 621 is more direct). Or one can walk the 1km distance up the hill to the gondola valley station from the station in about 12 minutes.
For those travelling from afar, the closest gateway airports are Innsbruck (INN) (for travellers from within Europe or the UK) and Zurich (ZRH) (for everyone else!). By train, from Zurich airport to ‘Vandans Golmerbahn’ can be accomplished in around 3hr (+/- 15min) via Bludenz. On the roads, Golm can be reached in under 2hr from Zurich’s airport. From Innsbruck airport, the journey by road in a rental car is between 2¾hr - 3&frac;hr (140km) depending on conditions. By train, the journey will take around 3hr from the airport at Innsbruck. it is also possible to get to Golm from Munich (MUC) airport. Via the western Austrian city of Bregenz, travel times from Munich are at best 4½hr by train, and significantly less by car.
The recommended mode of travel is a combination of train and bus (or train & walk), direct from the airports. Search & book here for train tickets to Vandans & Golm.
Driving to Golm via Vandans is quite straight-forward with masses of both paid and free parking near the gondola base. driving up the mid-station or accommodation at Latschau is another story though and could get a tad spicy in proper winter conditions. Anyone with an unnatural aversion to public transport and driving on winter roads may want to opt for a private transfer to Golm.
Golm Accommodation
There are two main areas of accommodation in close proximity to the Golm gondola valley stations. At the lowest base near the Golmbergbahn 1 valley station is the village of Vandans. As mentioned above, it has its own train station nearby too, providing ease of access. At the top of Golmbergbahn 1, where it changes to Golmbergbahn 2, the hamlet of Latschau/Tschagguns has some stellar accommodations, including the 5-star Falkensteiner Family Hotel Montafon, plus a range of other excellent hotels, but aside from the view to the north, it is a bit of a bamboozling location. Save your euros and stay next door at the gorgeous Gasthaus Sulzfluh instead.
For a stay in a larger, more lively town, Schruns is the closest and best. Schruns has its own train station that connects with Vandans & Bludenz, plus is a transport hub for the surrounding valley and has direct access to the ski lifts of Silvretta Montafon.

Review & More Info
The Powderhounds reviewed Golm in late December 2025 and were disappointed with what was on offer but noted its relevance for anyone looking for a more family oriented traditional Austrian ski resort with modern lifts & facilities. We probably should head back someday a check it out in better snow conditions but might not! Click on the review link in the left column (or top of the page if on a mobile) to read all the reviews.
