Sorenberg Ski Resort Switzerland

Sörenberg & its highest lifted point, the spectacular Brienzer Rothorn, offer a classically Swiss ski experience in a resort now covered by the world's best value ski pass, the Magic Pass. Located in central Switzerland, not far from Zurich & Lucerne, Sorenberg offers something for hardened freeriders & novices alike.

Skiing & Snowboarding, Lifts & Terrain

Sorenberg's ski lifts and terrain are located in two contrasting sectors. The 42km total of ski trails spans across the relatively gentle Schwarzenegg sector which rises up on an easterly aspect directly from various points of the village providing around 500m of skiable vertical for beginners & intermediates. Over 50% of the trails at Sorenberg are rated ‘easy’. The trails continue further up the valley in the Rothorn sector with over 1,000m of skiable vertical and more advanced on & off-piste terrain via the summit of the Brienzer Rothorn. Both sectors are connected at the base of the Rothorn cable car by lift and piste.

For novices & intermediates the lifts & pistes of Schwarzenegg are perfect and available from no less than 3 base areas near the village at 1,150m altitude. At one end, two modern quad chairs rise the entire vertical up to Hinter Schwarenegg at 1,690m altitude. In the middle, a gondola and T-bars get riders up to 1,470m altitude. And furthest down valley, more T-bars will drag skiers up to Hunschnubel at 1,678m altitude.

For freeriders, at the head of the valley, the recently upgraded cabins of the Rothorn cable car travel over 1,000m vertical to 2,300m altitude, just shy of the Brienzer Rothorn true summit. From there, intermediate pistes ( or the off-piste) can be skied toward Eisee and its quad chair ( with 300m of vertical). For the more adventurous, freeride descents directly beneath the cable car line can be accessed via the ridge, with at least 850m of fall-line vertical possible before it flattens out toward the valley. From the bottom the of Eisee quad, advanced pistes (& substantial off-piste) can be skied to the valley. Descents can be up to 5km long.

Ensure you know the name of the nearest bus stop to your accommodation - there are a lot of Sorenberg bus stops! if going skiing, head all the way to the Sörenberg, Rothornbahn stop. Travel from central Zurich to Sorenberg by train & bus can take as little as 2½hr (or more).

Sörenberg Accommodation

Stretched along the valley from around 1,150m altitude, Sorenberg village has several hotels, plus a handful of holiday home & apartment rentals available to visitors. The obvious place to stay when at the village of Sorenberg is clearly the Hotel Sörenberg it is a short stroll to the ski lift, or bus to Rothorn but its central to everything. Nearby and adjacent to the ski lifts in a ski-in position, Hotel GO-IN may be more to your liking.

Ski-in ski-out at the base of a surface tow in the valley at the northern end of the village, Hotel Rischli provides 4-star lodgings for those wanting a little more comfort.

If staying up high is your thing, the Bergwelten Salwideli is the place to stay. Whilst not quite ski-in ski-out in the traditional sense of a ski resort, it is on the northern fringes of the ski area at 1,363m altitude, 200m vertical above the valley floor.

If all else fails, stay down the valley in the village of Flühli at the gorgeous FLÜHLI Hotel Kurhaus.

The village of Sörenberg extends along a deep valley and has accommodation options near the ski lifts, and a few in more interesting upper mountain locations.
