Prali Ski Resort Italy

Prali ski resort (also known as 'Seggiovie 13 Laghi') is an 'under the radar' freeskiing paradise between Turin & Sestriere that combines awesome tree skiing with affordable prices. Situated at the end of a quiet valley, the ski area has some of the best larch tree skiing glades in Europe, a top lifted point of 2,540m & a skiable vertical of over 1,050m. When it snows deep & low, Prali is a paradise for Powderhounds, and with a daily lift pass price bordering on 'practically free' during the week, why wouldn't we check it out? Cannot believe it has taken us so long to visit. We were blown away by the terrain which includes some of the best tree skiing in Europe..... Go check it out on a deep retour d'est winter storm cycle.

Pros & Cons for Prali Ski Resort

Pros

  • Amongst the best tree skiing in Europe.
  • Incredible off-piste terrain on powder days for advanced or better riders.
  • A simple perfectly positioned lift system provides a solid 1,050m of skiable vertical that feels a whole lot bigger and longer.
  • Long, interesting piste trails for upper intermediates & advanced abilities.
  • Uncrowded on most days.
  • Fun backcountry adventures directly from the upper chairlift.
  • Affordable, good value lift pass price.
  • Free & plentiful car parking opposite the chairlift.
  • And did we mention the tree skiing…...

Cons

  • Slow chairlifts.
  • Snowfall in the region is increasingly sporadic, but when its good, its usually very good.
  • Intermediate skiers & snowboarders may find the piste trails quite challenging.
  • Public transport access is laborious (but still doable if you are keen!).
  • Limited accommodation close to the ski area (but lots within 30min drive).

Pro or Con (depending on your perspective!)

  • For off-piste riders, this is a true road trip destination on a classic ‘retour d’est’ weather pattern.
  • Limited capacity chairlifts can make the start to the day a little slow if its busy, but busy days are infrequent to say the least! Regardless be at the lift early as local freeriders are voracious in their appetites!
  • Very little for beginner skiers & snowboarders.
  • Quiet after hours.
  • Despite only 30 minutes from the main road, Prali is a ‘remote/isolated’ location. Anyone nervous on narrow, icy roads had better find someone else to drive up to Prali from Perosa Argentina!

Skiing & Snowboarding, Lift & Terrain

The Prali skiing & snowboarding terrain includes one of the main reasons to come here - a vast amount of larch tree skiing opportunities that are amongst the best (if not the best) in Europe. The full 1,070m of lifted vertical can be skied on or off-piste on any one long run.

On the 20km of pistes there is very little for beginners at Prali. The solo upper mountain blue trail requires beginners looking for easy terrain to either download to the bae or descend the intermediate pistes down. All the intermediate pistes are more challenging when compared to many European ski resorts. The 4 to 5km long descents are great fun though when no one is around midweek.

Prali is about off-piste trees though. Gentle (ish) up high, they then plunge in all directions to emerge at various points in the valley below and eventually back near the base area. Several exits require a short walk back to the lift base, but that is fine and really quite satisfying. Whilst this mountain is best for advanced & expert freeriders, there is still plenty of enjoyable off-piste for mere mortals (i.e. most skiers chasing powder) without looking too hard.

The ski lifts at Prali are simple but perfectly placed to provide maximum access to the best terrain. And with a little skinning from the top, the skiable terrain expands exponentially. The five lifts include two chairlifts, both doubles that ascend at a ‘relaxed’ pace allowing for your legs to adequately recover for the next descent. The first chair from the base (1,470m) to Pian dell’Alpet rises 760m vertical up to the tree line, providing reasonably sheltered skiing in all weather. The second double up to Bric Rond (2,540m) has just 310m vertical but expands the terrain opportunities immensely. The upper mountain J-bar (platter) is largely superfluous. Novices have a surface tow and conveyor in the valley near Ghigo village.

Prali is home to a small but hungry local freeride community that are quite adept a tracking the place out. It is best sampled in fresh snow, during the week.

Lift Passes

Lift tickets at Prali are cheap & awesome value for the incredible skiing here. Weekdays are cheaper than weekends & holidays, plus purchasing online prior to arrival is cheaper again and avoids lining up on a powder day.

Where is Prali Italy?

The Prali ski resort is located in the central western Piedmont of Italy, 78km by road (1½hr) west of Turin. The closest major town is Perosa Argentina, 21km (30min) away by road. The well-known ski resort of Sestriere is just 58km by road away, making day trips to Prali possible if one has a rental car

The closest gateway airports are Turin (TRN) (for travellers from within Europe or the UK) and Milan Malpensa (MXP) (for everyone else!). Turin airport is about 100km (1½hr drive) away from Prali, whilst Milan Malpensa airport is 220km or

Public transport to Prali is limited. Whilst getting to Perosa Argentina by bus is straight forward enough from either Sestriere or Turin, the final part of the journey becomes more questionable. The route 303 bus from Perosa Argentina makes a few journeys daily to Prali Ghigo village and so may be useful if staying in the area for a number of days, but in general the service is not the best for skiers.

Given the ‘awkward’ location of Prali, our recommended mode of travel to get there is rental car. The last part of the journey from Perosa Argentina is at times very narrow & icy, and a few of the locals are not shy of going fast, so it is best driven by those confident on winter mountain roads. To avoid the worst of the ‘head-on collision possibilities’, time your journey to be travelling in the same direction as the majority of the day’s traffic.

Prali Accommodation

In tune with Prali's quiet nature, there are relatively limited accommodation options in the vicinity of the resort. Accommodation at the base of the ski lifts in Prali (also referred to as Malzat) is limited to the Hotel Miramonti, there are a couple of fantastic alternatives close by. In the adjacent village of Ghigo (sometimes referred to as Prali Ghigo), Hotel Salei provides exceptional rooms, facilities & food. Just across the river from the chairlift, CasAlpAca B&B offers a more intimate experience, with a similarly exceptional standard of rooms, food & services. Other accommodation includes holiday rental apartments plus older-style guesthouse rooms in the tiny nearby villages like Perrero where the B&B La Mëisun often has availability.

About 30min drive from Prali, where the road up the valley begins, the large(ish) town of Perosa Argentina has a couple of excellent accommodation options that are very light on the bank balance but come with exceptional hospitality. Try the fabulous La Ciuenda BnB or the centrally located (& quirky) Maison Manu. Perosa Argentina has several exceptional local bars, restaurants & cafes.

Reviews & More Info

The Powderhounds reviewed Prali just after a storm in late December 2025. We found it to be an absolute beast of a ski hill but in the best possible way. A storm chasers delight for some of Europe's best tree skiing. Click on the review link in the left column (or top of the page if on a mobile) to read all the reviews.
