Freeride Albania Cat Skiing
Nestled in the remote Accursed Mountain of northern Albania, Freeride Albania provides a cat ski experience in a high alpine environment far removed from the hustle & bustle of the world. With oversnow access to the base at 1,800m sometimes undertaken with pack-horses, you just know this is going to be an interesting adventure.
Created by a mixed group of locals, UK & European backcountry skiing professionals only a few seasons ago, the region was previously inaccessible during winter. Freeride Albania utilises the tiny hamlet of Doberdol to ski the surrounding mountains, with access provided primarily by snowcat, but also snowmobiles & skinning. The mountains proximity to the Mediterranean Sea provides ample moisture to turn winter precipitation into a deep reliable snowpack.
Whilst certainly not 5-star luxury adventure, the food provided on the tour is exceptional (typical of the Balkans), and the accommodations in a series of small huts comfortable and warm. If you want ot escape the ordinary, this is possibly the place to ski....
