Gausta Ski Resort Norway
Gausta could be Norway's best lift-served skiing, with the pièce de résistance being the old Cold War era funicular that runs through the bowels of Gaustatoppen mountain all the way to the 1,883m summit for the highest lifted point & longest skiable vertical in the country. Set in the famed Telemark region in southern Norway, Gausta is just a touch over 2½hr drive west of central Oslo (or just over 3hr from the Oslo (OSL) airport).
Prior to us getting there and skiing it for ourselves, check out the Gausta Ski Trail Map below.
Gausta Accommodation
Gausta Ski Centre's main resort village of Gaustablikk is situated on a sunny plateau above the cold, dark valley village of Rjukan. The are a couple of good hotels and numerous chalets & cabin holiday rentals, and most have spanking views of the Gaustatoppen peak. Down in the valley, Rjukan has a few lodging options as well.
