Triple Point Expeditions (TPX) Alaska

Triple Point Expeditions is a heli skiing operation based near Palmer in Alaska, founded in 2011. The triple point of water is the temperature and pressure at which its three phases (liquid, gas, and solid) coexist in thermodynamic equilibrium. Metaphorically speaking, Triple Point Expeditions exists to bring the three key points of epic heli sking trips all together. These are the perfect location, the boutique size of the operation, and the focus on the customer experience, which comes from knowledge obtained over decades of helicopter ski guiding in Alaska and globally.

What Sets Triple Point Expeditions apart from other Alaska heli skiing outfits:

  • TPX offers a boutique private / semi-private heli experience for small groups, with a maximum of 8 guests.
  • The TPX heli skiing is amazing and it’s not just in one mountain range, but three. Depending on conditions, you'll get to ski in the Chugach, Talkeetnas and/or Alaskan ranges. It's even possible to hit up Valdez or the Tordrillos.
  • Triple Point Expeditions Heli Skiing is a boutique operation which enhances the personalized experience and flexibility to customize the experience depending on your wants and what mother nature throws at you. You can save dollars by going with one of the big operations where you may feel like you’re being run through a turnstile to fulfil a vertical or run quota. Each trip is not cookie cutter, and the client experience is unmatched.
  • The TPX Heli Skiing lodge is just 45 minutes from Anchorage, so there are no long drives and no extra internal flights or concerns about a flight into a small airport being weather plagued.
  • Accommodation is in private, single occupancy rooms.
  • The lodge has a maximum of 8 guests and it is private – no one else will be staying there.
  • Gourmet meals are included and each meal can be custom prepared by the chef.
You can apply to join a group as a solo traveller or small group, however if you want to just ski/ride with your mates, ideally you would have a group of 4 or 8.

If you have any questions or want to check availability, you can make a booking request.

Lodging & Meals

Your base is in a spectacular lodge located 15 mins drive from Palmer, and 3 meals a day and après ski snacks are chef prepared. The helicopter awaits you just outside the door, and on your return from skiing and snowboarding you can relax in the sauna or hot tub or have a massage. The lodge has a few frills that you won’t find with other Alaskan heli skiing.

Triple Point Expeditions Alaska – Heli Ski Packages

The TPX packages are heli weeks, with 7 nights of lodging and 7 days heli skiing. See the TPX Heli Ski packages for more information.

Where is Triple Point Expeditions Heli Skiing Located?

The base lodge for TPX Heli Skiing is near Palmer which is northeast of Anchorage, and just an easy 45 minute transfer from Anchorage Airport. Access is super easy compared to some other heli operations in AK because Anchorage Airport is easily accessed from major cities, and you won’t need to worry about small airports that can get shutdown when the bad weather arrives.

TPX staff pick-up and drop-off at Anchorage airport or downtown, and can provide transportation if you want to explore the local area or pick up something from town such as alcohol supplies.

TPX Heli Ski Terrain

The Triple Point Expeditions Heli Ski permitted terrain covers thousands of acres and spans the Chugach, Talkeetna and Alaska ranges. On occasion, TPX hits up the Tordillo, Neacola, Cordova, Valdez and other zones.

In order to stay nimble and keep you on the mountain, TPX utilizes a road system with multiple mountain ranges surrounding the lodge on all sides with numerous, distinct weather climate regions. With heli skiing in general, you can stay near the coast but that’s where the weather hits first and clears last. Too deep and high and you have limited snow and variable stability. TPX finds the sweet spot. You have coastal ranges that extend from 6,000ft to sea level or you can explore more continental options with better weather and 10,000-foot peaks.

The Triple Point Expeditions heli skiing terrain is breathtaking, offering big open bowls, steep spines, big long ramps, steep couloirs and powder glacier runs. Almost all runs are above the tree-line.

A typical day of heli skiing with TPX is about 8-12 runs (average 10) subject to group speed & weather. Average runs are 3,000 vertical feet so 30,000 feet per day is average. Maximum elevation is about 8,000 feet.

TPX Terms & Conditions

A DEPOSIT of 50% is required at the time you book.

The BALANCE is due 90 days prior to arrival (or upon booking if it is less than 90 days to departure).

There are NO REFUNDS under any circumstances to you must purchase travel insurance that covers you for trip cancellation.

Alaska Helicopter Skiing Safety / Guides

Founded in 2011, Triple Point Expeditions is always focused on guest safety. From day one the guest's safety is the #1 priority in everything and every decision made. The TPX team live and breathe their profession and have dedicated themselves to honing the craft to meet the rigorous demands of the guide life. TPX is built by guides, operated by guides, and owned by guides. Each TPX guide is chosen for their specific skill sets, credentials, and experience. A guide looks after your safety and well being, puts you in the right place at the right time and imparts knowledge culminated over the years.

Triple Point Expeditions’ guides have explored Alaska for decades and bring a breadth of knowledge to your experience every day. They are specialists in avalanche mitigation, high angle rescue and helicopter skiing. Many are professionals in multiple disciplines of guiding, from high alpine mountaineering to the rock discipline in the summertime. All are dedicated to their craft and focus on delivering the best client experience possible and TPX promises that you won’t be held back by your guides ski ability.

The guides are at a minimum, Wilderness First Responders, AAA members, and Avalanche Pro 2 certified. Most guides have pursued the AMGA track and are fully certified IFMGA or AMGA certified ski / snowboard guides. Each guide and pilot have been trained in helicopter ski operations, mountain weather, wilderness survival, remote medical, and advanced top down mechanized ski guiding techniques.

Additionally, the guides and pilots work in numerous guiding and public safety roles full time and around the world. From firefighters and paramedics to emergency room trauma nurses, the staff continues to train and serve the public as professionals in their fields.

The heli ski days start with an early morning meeting to discuss safety, weather, communications, logistics and avalanche problems. The team utilizes every resource available to forecast for the expansive permit area giving the guides the tools to deliver the best heli skiing.

World Class AK Heli Ski Operation

Highly recommend TPX. I spent a lot of time researching AK heli ski operators before settling on TPX and I couldn't be happier that I picked TPX. TPX differentiates itself with a small group approach (8 guests total in 2 groups in 1 bird), primary focus on intense skiing (they will find terrain that challenges even the best skiers without ever making anyone uncomfortable), community lodge experience where you get to know the other guests and staff, and a phenomenal chef (who has worked in three Michelin star kitchens, been a personal chef to a billionaire, and was twice nominated for a James Beard award). Proximity to Anchorage is a logistical advantage. Many of the other guests I skied with had been coming back for years, and had also tried other operators. All of them agreed that TPX was the best product they had tried.

I've had the time of my life.
50 minute drive from Anchorage and with heli access to the huge surrounding terrain.
2 groups of 4 per heli - which keeps the pace right.
Food and accommodation were great.
The guides were the best and did everything to keep us happy and safe.
Each and everyone of them is a great guy I wish to to ride with again.
One can really feel the benefits of a small operation in every aspect and yet it everything is organized to perfection.

I will be back for sure.

Most say save the best for last, but I say why wait for the best. Triple Point Expeditions (TPX) is the best and exactly why I chose it for my first time heli-ski dream trip. Tucker and his entire TPX team are top of the line and top flight on every turn in their operation from the lodge to the mountains! [ski puns intended]

Although a life time skier, I had never been skiing like this before and, at first, felt it would be way above my skill set. TPX put my experience and safety as a priority. I was fortunate to ski with every guide while here and each one bestowed positivity and confidence that kept me going on run after run of a lifetime. The terrain that TPX can access is jaw dropping and seems to be endless. But each time TPX picked the best of the best for that day. The small group size, expert guides, and exceptional piloting made us very nimble to find the best. Everyone else in my group, who had been heli-skiing many times and many places, reaffirmed that I made the right choice going with TPX.

Back at the lodge and after a hot tub, sauna, and a cold plunge, I didn’t need any encouragement to go back for seconds after clearing my plate of the delicious dinner and dessert night after night to refill my calories burned that day. I rarely eat breakfast at home, but could not skip one of the breakfasts on this trip! While breakfast and dinner could not be beat, lunch on the mountain was a treat to its own. It was an opportunity each day to take a moment and soak in the beautiful mountains that we were able to ski that day while having a catered lunch in the wilderness.

I didn’t save the best for last, but this won’t be my last. As Tucker would say, don’t ski it if you can’t see it. I will be going back to see it and ski it!! Alaska is a very special place in our world and, to my amazement, TPX was able to make it even more special.

Big thank you to team TPX for making dreams come true!

10/10 recommend. If you are looking for a heli trip in Alaska, Triple Point needs to be on your shortlist. The skiing and safety first mindset are world class. Pair that with a great lodge and unbelievable food, Taite is the man, and it's truly an experience of a lifetime. Hats off to the guides, Chris, Matt and Pat. Tucker has created something truly special. I'll be back next year.

TPX is run in very professional manner with an extremely dedicated team. I had a unique and memorable adventure. I was awestruck by the enormity of the slopes, and being a first time heliskier, I often felt overwhelmed . I enjoy skiing blacks and occasionally double blacks at challenging resorts, but none of my experiences prepared me for the vastness of this untouched terrain and the intensity of small helicopter skiing. I would definitely recommend TPX for an expert or very powder-savvy advanced skier.

This was an all around incredible experience. Safety was the upmost priority. The small group size allowed us to be nimble and maximize skiing time when the weather allowed. The entire staff was excellent and worked really hard to deliver the best possible experience. Tate's cooking was incredible. The best culinary experience I've had on any trip.. everyone gained weight. I've done a few heli trips with other outfitters, but Triple Point Expeditions is really next level. I will definitely be back next year!

Awesome week. The guides were absolutely amazing, their expertise in finding good lines, good snow, and giving me advice on how to maximize my experience was unprecedented. The whole crew: pilot, guides, Tucker, Steve as supporting personnel, and Taite keeping us fed, run a very efficient and fun operation. Already put our deposit in for next year, Woohoo !

Heli Yeah! What an amazing experience! This was my first time ever in Alaska and first time ever in a helicopter. A “Safety First” mentality, experienced world class guides and staff, access to more skiing than your mind can process, exclusive lodging and world class meals. Great communication from the owner Tucker Patton, Connor our pilot, our guides (2022 NZ Olympic gold medal snowboard coach) Tom and Pat, the awesome Chef Taite, and “Steve the Man” made everything seamless and comfortable. And Oh yeah THE SKIING!🚁🚁⛷⛷ I couldn’t imagine doing this with any other outfitter. Do your research and you will see what I mean. Very intimate and personal and REAL experience in the big mountains of AK!

From the moment you land in Anchorage, to the airport drop off on your way home, Triple Point in on point. Tucker and his team have put together an unforgettable experience with safety as the top priority.

You will spend your days pushing you limits in big terrain with some of the worlds best and most knowledgeable guides, then return to the lodge for food that blows away anything you will find at other lodges or ski resorts. Words won't do it justice, you have to experience it for yourself.

This is the perfect adventure if you are looking to challenge yourself in an intimate group setting in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

The premier AK heli trip

A few specific runs/lines were my main highlights, which is what we came for, but beyond that the overall trip was good vibes the whole time and everyone was fun to be around. Getting to spend time in mountains like that, the food was insane - most good meals in a row Ive ever had, learning more about the backcountry, conditions, my equipment, how to ride it, etc. feeling like you're on a small strike mission team instead of part of a big machine/company, the hot tub is ideal way to end a fly day, facilities were expanded on since I came 4 years ago - bigger and better all around.

Felt safe the whole time, but also that they were trying to score as hard as possible, which is ideal to me

All star crew they all were great, Chef Taite was almost too good at his job it was ridiculous

TPX Heli Review

Tucker Dayton

I skied with Triple Point in 2021 and couldn't have enjoyed the experience more. The team was exceptional, they were all highly knowledgeable, safety focused, and fun to hang out with in the lodge between sessions. The range of terrain that was available to us to ski, the small group size, and the adaptability of the guides to the experience level of each skier made it a highly customized experience and one that I would recommend to anyone looking for a personalized, high end heli-skiing experience. Not to mention the food which was some of the best I've ever had anywhere.

A nimble small group experience focused first and foremost on the skiing. With Alaska, the fear is getting up there only to spend most of your time waiting out weather. With only 8 guests at a time and multiple mountain ranges available, TPX maximizes your chances of great skiing, even in tricky weather conditions. The guides are top notch veterans, including multiple certified mountain guides. Tucker, the owner, is right in the mix - and has experience running this operation for TGR athletes. On top of that, the food was out of this world. Probably the best I've eaten ever in my life. You come for the skiing, but the amenities and vibes are there too.
