Soldier Mountain Cat Skiing
Soldier Mountain Cat Skiing in South Idaho is a sublime spot where you can shred untracked snow in pristine Idaho backcountry without having to earn your turns. The terrain sits over the back and above the Soldier Mountain Ski Resort, so a day of cat skiing or Trax skiing makes a great adjunct to some resort skiing or snowboarding. Or being located just a 1:20 hour drive from
Sun Valley, you can easily incorporate a day or more of cat skiing during your Sun Valley ski vacation.
One notable pro of the Soldier Mountain Cat Skiing is that it’s quite affordable relative to a few of the big-name cat skiing outfits in the US. Another distinctive feature is the snow quality, thanks to high elevation and low temperatures that are characteristic of the area.
In addition to snowcat skiing, Soldier Mountain also offers Trax skiing for small private groups. Instead of a snowcat, you’ll head up the mountain in an ATV that has a heated interior. Relative to the snowcat, these machines enable faster and easier access to additional terrain.

Soldier Mountain Ski Resort
Soldier Mountain Ski Resort is the antithesis to its high profile neighbor Sun Valley. It’s not a destination ski resort, it’s delightfully isolated, it doesn’t attract the crowds, and it’s got a laidback friendly vibe.
Soldier Mountain is not an overly developed or large ski area and it consists of 1,150 acres of skiable terrain on mostly east facing slopes, with 35 marked trails and elevations from 5,756 ft up to 7,177 ft on Soldier Peak. The ski area is serviced by two chairlifts. The High Trail Express heads up from the base, whilst above that is a fixed grip double chair. The base area also has a magic carpet for novices.
