Le Dévoluy Ski Resort France
Le Dévoluy ski resorts links the villages of Superdévoluy La Joue du Loup to create an intriguing outlier in the French Alps south of Grenoble. The highest lifted point of 2,500m, 1,000m metres of skiable vertical, 100km of piste trails on north-aspect terrain, and affordable lift pass certainly sounds like it worth an exploratory visit as some point. of the 22 ski lifts, there is a huge number of J-bar surface tows (14!), plus a reasonably modern assemblage of 6 chairlifts including one telemix (combi/chondola) with 6-seater chair and 8-seater gondola cabins. On-piste terrain is heavily weighted toward beginners & intermediates. Of interest though, there are a number of pistes (six in all) designated ‘Jour de Peuf’ (powder day) slopes, so we assume they are ungroomed when fresh snow is on the mountain. Above the resort, ski touring on the Bure plateau appears to be worthwhile too. Before we get there to see it for ourselves & expand on what we know, check out the ski trail map below.
Where is Le Dévoluy France?
The Le Devoluy ski resort is located in the Hautes-Alpes region of France, less than 2hr drive (96km by road) south of Grenoble. Geneva airport in Switzerland is 243km by road (over 3hr drive) to the north, and Lyon airport is around 185km and 2½hr by road to either of the resort's two villages.
The closest gateway airports for travellers from within Europe or the UK include the likes of Grenoble (GNB) & Champery (CMF), but if travelling on a weekend, you may wish to avoid them as they have a reputation for being totally inadequate for the volume of patronage passing through them, particularly on a Saturday. midweek is fine if there are flights. Otherwise the safer bets, and for any intercontinental visitors, are Lyon (LYS) & Geneva (GVA).
Le Devoluy Accommodation
The two resort villages of Superdévoluy & La Joue du Loup are quite contrasting in appearance and location. Superdevoluy is a more concentrated selection of high-rise apartments with immediate access to lifts & slopes. The village aspect is on a northeast aspect, receiving plenty of early morning winter sun, but less in the afternoon. There is only one hotel in each village, with all other holiday rental accommodation being apartments & chalets.

La Joue du Loup village has similar slope-facing accommodation immediately in front of the ski lifts, albeit lower-rise. Behind that, a wider selection of chalet accommodation is pleasantly located in a forested area. There are even a few ski-in ski-out options slightly further up the mountain. The village's northwest aspect means the sun is slower to appear in the morning, but it does do OK in the afternoons. to access the skiing, La Joue du Loup village has the Fontettes telemix chair/gondola heading up to the slopes from the edge of the village.
