Big Sky Activities & Tours

Backcountry Books Ski & Snowboard Guide Books & Maps
Big Sky winter activities include the very popular Yellowstone National Park, cross country skiing, various kids’ activities, dog sledding, and snowmobiling.

Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park is only 48 miles away from Big Sky, and you can either stay down in West Yellowstone for a couple of nights before or after your Big Sky ski vacation, or do a day trip to the park. Yellowstone offers a smorgasbord of feasts for the eyes, from gushing geysers and thermal pools to close encounters with bison and other wildlife. There are tours that depart from Big Sky and you can explore the park via snowmobiling tours, ranger guided snowshoeing, cross country skiing, or snowcoach rides to Old Faithful.

Cross Country Skiing / Lone Mountain Ranch

Lone Mountain Ranch is 6 miles down the road from the Mountain Village of Big Sky. You can stay at the ranch or just enjoy the various activities on offer such as snowshoeing, dog sledding and fly fishing.

Nordic skiing is big at Lone Mountain Ranch (this is Big Sky after all!) where there are 85 kilometres of groomed cross country trails. Lessons, rentals and guided tours are available.

Family Activities

Big Sky Resort has a tube park at Mountain Village, whilst Moonlight Basin has Blazing Saddles Sledding Hill. Equipment rentals are available.

For short bursts of family fun, bungee trampolining and a giant swing are located in the plaza at Mountain Village.

There are a few operators that offer sleigh rides.

Town Center Park in Meadow Village has an outdoor ice rink with free skating.

Relaxation

If you need some pampering there is a day spa in the Huntley Lodge in Mountain Village at Big Sky Resort, or you can head down to Lone Mountain Ranch.
