Mammoth Shopping

Mammoth is a place where you can shop til you drop. It’s not so much that Mammoth shopping is so amazing that you should apply for an increase on your credit card; it’s more that the shops are so spread out that you might drop if you try and walk between them all!

The Village at Mammoth has several shops and they’re easy enough to wander around, and there are also snowboard and ski shops up in the Mammoth ski resort base lodges. The town of Mammoth Lakes provides the biggest shopping effort as it’s really dispersed. Main Street isn’t much of a “main street” and there isn’t even a sidewalk where you can easily wander from shop to shop to browse. It’s more of a place you explore in your car and park out the front of the shop you want to go to. Other Mammoth shops are spread out up Old Mammoth Rd.

Mammoth Ski Shops

The Village has a few snowboard and ski shops. McCoys’ is a large, mostly upscale ski apparel shop with an abundance of Kjus clothing and also some fabulous Bogner foofoo outfits. Mammoth Sports is a large Mammoth ski shop that has hardwear as well as lots of clothing options with brands such as Spyder and Burton. Alpine Approach largely caters to backcountry types with clothing and footwear from brands such as Arcteryx and Patagonia.

Up at Canyon Lodge at Mammoth Ski Resort is another Mammoth Sports, a large shop with plenty of hardwear, outerwear, and ski and snowboard accessories.

There are several Mammoth Lakes ski shops down in town as well as the snowboard specific Wave Rave shop. Kittredge Sports on Main Street is situated in an old shabby building that packs in plenty of variety. This huge shop has Mammut, Marmot, and Spyder gear, just to name a few brands, plenty of skis and boots, and also lots of kids ski gear.

Mammoth Mountaineering on Main Street is situated in an equally dilapidated building, but it’s a treasure trove of backcountry type gear and clothing for avid powder hounds, including telemark equipment. I could have a field day in here!

Mammoth Shopping - Souvenirs

Your best bets for souvenir shopping are in the Village and at the ski resort base lodges in the Mammoth Sports shops.

Mammoth Memories in the Village has lots of Mammoth logo wear, souvenirs and other keepsakes. The quintessential Mammoth souvenir seems to be the very cute woolly mammoth soft-toy!

General Shopping Mammoth

The Village has a few general shops including a ladies boutique, leather shop, and a kids clothing store.

Main Street of Mammoth Lakes has a couple of outlet stores. This is a fantastic spot to go if you’re in the market for some new après boots at a bargain price!

Grocery Shopping

The Village has the Busy Beez’ General Store which is a new made-to-look-old shop that sells basic groceries, a little fresh fruit and vegetables, some refrigerated goods such as cheese and dips, and plenty of alcohol. I particularly liked the big candy section of this shop!!

If you need to do some substantial grocery shopping in Mammoth, head to the Vons supermarket in the Minaret Village or the Safeway.
