Dinner Plain should not really be considered as a downhill resort. Anyone past their first couple of days skiing would not consider the one downhill slope worthwhile. However, it does provide good accommodation for larger groups and families and a lot of the accommodation is suitable for pets.

Dinner Plain offers good access to the cross-country trail system in the area as well.

Best suited for: Families on a budget - stay in Dinner Plain, ski in Hotham

Pros:
Large, house or apartment based accomodation
Proximity to Hotham
Generally pet-friendly
Access to cross-country trails

Cons:
One tiny downhill slope

There’s something very relaxing about Dinner Plain. It’s hard to put your finger on it, but it’s the combination of the setting, the style of accommodation, friendly locals, and the vibe that makes it stress free.

I prefer to stay at Dinner Plain rather than Mt Hotham. Sure there’s the daily drive to the hill (or it’s easy to catch the bus), but staying with friends without spending a bomb is one bonus, and we much prefer the dining options at Dinner Plain. High Plains Lodge is a highlight for dinner, as is Tsubo, whilst for days when I can’t bring myself to head out skiing in the rain, I love to cosy up at Mountain Kitchen, have a coffee, and get stuck into some of the fab food.

See the overview of Dinner Plain for more info on the pros and cons of this little ski town.
