Nagano Hotels Near The Station

Staying in Nagano accommodation right near the train station is ideal if you’re just stopping over in Nagano for one night, or if you want to use a Nagano hotel as a base for your Nagano ski trip and want easy access to catch trains and buses to the ski resorts. Many of the Nagano hotels provide very good value for money.

Here’s a quick orientation to the exits of the train station in case you want the ultimate in convenience. The west exit aka Zenkoji exit (actually northwest) leads out via a dog-leg to Chuo Dori, a nice street that heads north to the Zenko-ji Temple. This side of town is very vibrant and has a maze of streets and laneways with many restaurants, bars and shops. Many of the Nagano hotels are located on this side of the city. Lots of local buses depart from the west exit. The east exit of the train station (southeast) is the quieter side of the city. The buses to the ski resorts depart from the east exit.

Hotel Metropolitan is attached to the Nagano train station, so it doesn’t get any more convenient than this to access trains and buses. This 4 star Nagano hotel has large deluxe rooms, and various restaurants and an elegant bar. Room configurations include twin rooms as well as king rooms, which is somewhat unique for Japan.

Hotel Sunroute Nagano is only a 2-minute walk from the Zenkoji (west exit) of the Nagano train station. This hotel provides reasonably nice hotel accommodation.

Hotel Sunroute Nagano Higashiguchi (not to be confused with the hotel above) is on the other side of the train station (east exit), and is a little more deluxe than its counterpart. It’s just opposite the train station (1 minute walk) in an incredibly convenient location, and it offers some nice views from some of the rooms. The Powderhounds have stayed here and can recommend it.

Hotel Abest Nagano Ekimae is right opposite the west (Zenkoji) exit of the train station, offering very inexpensive hotel accommodation. The Powderhounds have stayed here, and it was fine but our room was very very small considering the amount of luggage we had. You get what you pay for.

Nagano Plaza Hotel offers simple and inexpensive hotel accommodation. It is located a 2-minute walk from the west exit of the train station.

For backpacker accommodation, ryokans (traditional Japanese inns) and other Nagano hotels, check out availability and rates on the Nagano Hotel Listings.

Shibu Onsen and Yudanaka Accommodation

Another option for a base to visit many of the Nagano ski resorts is to stay in Shibu Onsen or the adjacent town of Yudanaka (aka snow monkey town). Shibu Onsen offers a culturally rich experience with lots of traditional Japanese ryokans where you can immerse yourself in the culture and not just the onsens.

See the Shibu Onsen accommodation and Yudanaka hotels pages for more information.
