Activities & Tours

Silverton Winter Activities Silverton is probably not the place to bring your partner or family if they don’t ski because non-skiing activities are somewhat limited. Silverton is a long way from any day spas or sleigh rides! Silverton is rough around the edges and activities are only for the adventurous.

Ski Tours and Activities The best activity in the area is cat skiing with Silverton Powdercats (aka El Diablo Cat Skiing) which is based 6 miles out of Silverton atop Molas Pass. If you’d rather a snowcat did the hiking for you, Silverton Powdercats is the perfect alternative to roughing it at Silverton Mountain. Or when Silverton Mountain is closed Monday to Wednesday, Silverton Powdercats offer an early week special. Perfect for ski bums! See our review of Silverton Powdercats for more information.

Another backcountry skiing option is heli skiing at Silverton Mountain or the DIY back country skiing out off Silverton is world class and easily accessed. Nordic skiing is also available close to the town of Silverton.

Family Activities Kendall Mountain is a little family ski hill located in the town of Silverton. It has 240 feet of vertical, 4 runs, and a little bit of tree skiing serviced by a double chairlift. Lift tickets are super cheap so it’s the ideal place for the family to learn to ski.

Silverton Adventure Activities Red Mountain Cabins offer guided snowmobile tours starting from the Molas Lake pass area. The 1, 2 and 4 hour tours are designed for beginners and intermediates.

Ice Pirates Snowmobiling also operates from the same area. Their 2 hour, 3 hour and full day tours not only cater to families and beginners on groomed trails, but they also run high alpine adventure riding.

For those with a true spirit for crazy adventures, Ouray Ice Park is only 30 minutes north of Silverton. Ouray is the ice climbing capital of the world and there are various companies outlined on the Ice Park website that offer guiding and tuition services.
