There are some shopping opportunities at Purgatory Resort and in the town of Durango, but don’t get too excited – this is not Aspen or Vail!

Purgatory Ski Shops

The biggest of the Purgatory ski shops is Purgatory Sports. The shop has a moderate range of outerwear for moderate budgets. You won’t find any luxury brands – you’ll need to go shopping in Telluride for that. The shop sells various ski and board accessories, kids gear and a few souvenirs.

For ski hardwear you’ll need to go to the Expert Edge shop around the corner.

Also at the Purgatory ski resort, The Board Room is dedicated to snowboarders with clothing and board rental, demos and retail.

There are a handful of Durango ski shops and snowboard stores. The Ski Barn (3533 Main Ave) isn’t quite big enough to really be called a barn, but they have a reasonable range of clothing, hardwear and accessories for skiers and boarders.

Backcountry Experience has a focus on backcountry touring gear, and they also have demos including avalanche safety gear, ski touring set ups, and splitboards.

Souvenir Shopping

For Purgatory logowear and other souvenirs, your best bet is Purgatory Sports.

General Shopping in Durango

The town of Durango has various shopping opportunities. The downtown area around Main Avenue and the nearby streets has unique shopping including art galleries, homewares, old west knick knacks, and clothing. More mainstream shopping can be found at the Durango Mall that has lots of shops including department stores.

Grocery Shopping

Those staying on-mountain at Purgatory ski resort are best advised to purchase groceries in Durango before arrival. The Village Market and Deli in the Purgatory Village only offers very basic groceries and liquor supplies for which you’ll pay a premium. They sell pasta, pasta sauces, cereal, sundries, and a small amount of frozen meat but no fresh produce.

One alternative is to get supplies at the Needles Country Store and Needles Liquor Store about 2 miles down the road. This is a slightly larger grocery store.

In Durango, half an hour’s drive from the resort, there are various supermarkets. Albertson’s is located at 311 West College Drive, or the City Market Food and Pharmacy is located on the resort side of town at 3130 Main Ave, Durango.
