Breckenridge Review

23/01/2026
I have been to Breckenridge twice. Both times were on a Monday in April, so both times were uncrowded. I never saw a lift line. Because of that, I am giving Breck a good score for uncrowded. Of course, my experience isn't representative of an average day at Breck, as I went there during some of the least crowded days of the entire year.

The first time I went to Breck, it was a bluebird day and my favorite runs were at peak 6. The peak 7 and 9 runs were very fun as well, but I can see them getting a little boring/old pretty fast, and almost all of the blue-rated runs at Breck felt more like Greens to me. The exception to that was the peak 6 blues, which are definitely on the harder side of blue and much harder than the peak 7 runs.

The 2nd time I went to Breck, it was snowing almost the whole day and it was low visibility. (Because of the low visibility and the fact that you have to take a shuttle and then a gondola just to get to the base of the ski area, my dad felt very nauseous that day, which sucked. I felt good, but if you get motion sick a lot, I would not recommend going to Breck on a low visibility day.) Some runs were very icy, but most of the runs were in great condition. Around 1 pm or so, the clouds started to break up and it actually turned into bluebird skies for around an hour. I took the t-bar, then I lapped the 6 chair for a while, which has some awesome steep terrain, then I took Imperial lift and took a run all the way down to the bottom. This was super fun for the first half, but then it turned into a very long traverse. Traverses at Breck are more common than at other Colorado ski areas, and this lowers my score for the piste trails.

Breck is east facing but it is at a high elevation, so it still preserves snow well. I felt like Breck had tons of greens lower down and tons of steep terrain higher up, but true blue runs are limited. Since I had such a good experience at Breck in the spring, I would definitely recommend it for spring skiing, but I can't recommend it for any other time since I've only been to Breck in April.

The lifts are great in general, but 6-chair should really be upgraded, and lots of the terrain is hike-to (such as peak 7, six senses, lake chutes).

Breck has a nice combination of gentle greens and up high Double Black Extreme skiing. Our family loved the variety of green and blue runs. Get to the resort early since the Gondola ride to Peak 8 base takes a while plus the walking at the parking lot. Lockers are located at the base areas at Peak 8 and 9 and they are rented for the day via a kiosk machine. Really nice outdoor deck at the base of Peak 8 to enjoy a beer with the Sun beaming down on you. Look forward to our next visit to Breck!

Breckenridge is an excellent ski resort. Great runs for all abilities, including for beginners. It is very well organized and has many options. The only problem is getting there. It is easy to do so, just a little far from Denver.

If you're a beginner and like long lift lines, this is the place for you. If you're on this website reading this review, that probably isn't you. The upper half of the mountain where the only steep terrain resides, is always closed due to wind. Everything else funnels down to a few very flat sections with long lift lines and ski patrollers yelling at you to slow down.

This place is truly miserable for anyone at an intermediate level or higher. Go to Copper or Keystone, it's well worth the 20 minute drive.

Breck is a crowded mess worth avoiding most of the winter.
The high alpine terrain is pretty sweet though and they do get good snow.
Just watch out for the reckless Texans and Denverites charging down the groomers.

Great snow, great lift system, decent terrain, fun ski town. Breckenridge seemingly has it all. Snow quality, while not deep, was fantastic with light dry powder. I found the intermediate terrain to be somewhat repetitive. The expert terrain is not in great abundance here; and more often than not involves hiking to access. The terrain was also on the tame side when compared to Tahoe and Utah. Nevertheless, Breck is a good ski area and deserves a visit, when combined with nearby Vail.

I went in the new year (2018/2019) - stayed for 10 days, and I think it was very crowded, mainly at the peak 9, where we usually waited 25 minutes to get the quicksilver lift. I stayed at the Village on peak 9, a very convenient place where u can find everything around. The city is beautiful but the restaurants and markets aldo crowded. Once you get the lifts in the middle of the mountain it becomes less crowded. All bars and restaurants were always crowded. The lifts needs also to be updated, most of them are old.

The skiing was great. Very open and fast. Snow was a bit icy at the end of the season, but better than expected for the respective time of year. It was very windy. Great atmosphere and a great variety of trail types. Excellent extreme slopes and plenty of beginner and intermediate slopes.
