Aspen Mountain Lodging Options
Aspen is a fantastic ski town that is world famous, and not just amongst the skiing fraternity. Staying in Aspen has the advantage of convenient access to
Aspen Mountain, as well as easy access to the buzz of Aspen which includes the amazing shopping and the vibrant bars and restaurants.
Generally you have to pay a premium for Aspen accommodations, particularly hotels near the slopes, but there is also a good range of accommodation that falls into the modest price bracket.
There are lots of Aspen hotels, condos, and lodges to suit a variety of needs, but the first decision you may want to make is the location of your accommodation. Do you want to be slope-side or are you happy to walk to the gondola?
Aspen Hotels Close to the Slopes
Accommodations at the south end of town are generally very close to the slopes of
Aspen Mountain.
There is very little true ski-in ski-out accommodation in Aspen.
The Little Nell Hotel next to the gondola could be categorized as ski-in ski-out.
The Gondola Plaza is the center of the action because the Silver Queen gondola is the main lift that ascends from town. Any lodging on East Durante Avenue, particularly between Spring St and Galena Street, is in a prime location because it’s close to the gondola and also in proximity to the shops and restaurants. Not surprisingly, some of the fanciest Aspen hotels are located in this zone.
Further to the southwest is the slow Shadow Mountain chair, the other lift that rises from town. The many condos in this area are reasonably close to the slopes, but they require a bit more of a walk to get to the hub of action in town.

Aspen Lodging Requiring a Walk or Bus Ride
The town of Aspen has lots of other lodging options that aren’t as close to the gondola or lift, and will require a decent walk or a shuttle bus ride. Some of these Aspen lodging options fall into the modest price bracket, but there are also deluxe Aspen hotels at the northern end of town.
These Aspen accommodations provide easy access to the
Aspen restaurants, bars and shops.

Other Aspen Accommodations
If nightlife and a multitude of shopping opportunities isn’t a high priority, you could also stay at one of the other Aspen Snowmass ski resorts and then catch a bus to ski at Aspen Mountain (or to party!).
Snowmass has lots of ski-in ski-out lodging and is incredibly friendly.
Buttermilk Mountain is also incredibly kid friendly, but there is very limited accommodation on offer (Inn at Aspen Hotel by Resort Quest).
Alternatively stay in the village at Aspen Highlands which is generally more affordable than staying in the town of Aspen.
