Ultimate Central Hokkaido
The Ultimate Central Hokkaido Tour heads to different ski areas and backcountry zones in Central Hokkaido, from your base in Furano for 4 nights then 4 nights in the city of Asahikawa. On the Ultimate Central Hokkaido you'll get to tackle the powder the best and get the best of both worlds whilst working smarter not harder. Get some runs in which what's for grabs at a ski resort and then if it gets tracked out, you'll put on the skins and tour a bit further afield whilst still utilising the capabilities that the lifts can provide. For 2 or more days, there will be full backcountry days depending on the conditions on the day and the group dynamics.
The ski areas of
Central Hokkaido are powder laden. Due to the location away from the coast, the climatic conditions in Central Hokkaido produce low humidity dry powder that falls in abundance. The region also has the highest mountains of Hokkaido.
The trip starts based out of
Furano and here are some terrain examples:
The second base will be the city of
Asahikawa and here are some options:
- Asahidake - one cable car, the tallest mountain in Hokkaido and an active volcano with billowing fumaroles that are visible on fine days
- Kamui Links - the locals ski resort with playful terrain
- Kurodake - partly lift served backcountry with the most gnarly terrain in Hokkaido - only available certain dates
- Backcountry - there are various options for classic birch tree runs not too far from the city
Local weather patterns typically vary somewhat, and your guide will have some flexibility to adapt the trip to chase snow conditions in order for you to get the best possible experience.
