Otaru Guiding & Tuition
Otaru Adventure offer powder progression guiding for PRIVATE GROUPS (of 1 to 5 people) at the ski areas near Otaru in Hokkaido.
If you're good at skiing or riding on-piste and want to learn or become better at skiing/riding powder, it goes without saying that you need to actually find the powder stashes to have the opportunity to improve, which isn't as easy as it sounds. Having an instructor guide gives you the best of both worlds: someone to show you where to find the fresh powder; and someone to give you the tips and confidence to manage the powder efficiently and effectively. The instructor guide will tailor the day to your skill level and build confidence and technique for complex terrain and deep snow, as well as giving you some tactical tips. This could be an initial introduction to powder or tuition on enjoying the fresh snow in the tighter trees.

Locations
Powder progression day trips can occur at the following ski areas near Otaru:
Kiroro;
Sapporo Kokusai; or
Asarigawa Onsen.
For full day guiding trips you can request transport between your accommodation in Otaru or Kiroro and the ski area.
Terrain
The focus of the progression guided trips is the lift-accessed terrain at the ski resorts. Whether that be in-bounds or out-of-bounds terrain will depend on your objectives, your group's experience and fitness, and the regulations of the ski area visited. The equipment you have will also be a factor and avalanche equipment rental is available on request. If you have touring gear, there is also the option for an introduction to backcountry touring.
Ability Level
To get the most out of your day/time, your private group should have similar objectives and be of similar ability level. As a minimum, you should be a strong intermediate skier or rider with some experience in variable snow conditions.
Duration
Choose from 3 hours of guided instruction in the morning or afternoon to a full day of guiding and tuition (6 hours guiding + 1 hour break). Whilst the default option is to meet on-snow, there is limited availability for help with transport to and from your hotel for full-day guiding.

book one day or multiple days.
Group
This program is for private groups only of 1 to 5 people. Solos or duos are not able to join a mixed group. The price for the group is slightly tiered with rates for 1 to 3 people in your group versus 4 to 5 people.
