Having skied Alaska, Canada, pretty much all of Europe, the Kaukasus and even mainland Japan before, I just had the pleasure of joining a backcountry skiing trip in central Hokkaido with Kazan Japan Travel. I can confidently say it was an unforgettable experience. From start to finish, everything was incredibly well-organized, allowing us to focus entirely on enjoying the world-class powder that Hokkaido is world famous for.

Evan, the owner and lead guide, is not only an expert in the terrain but also an outstanding host. His deep knowledge of the local mountains, snow conditions, and safety protocols ensured that every day was filled with incredible runs in untouched snow. He tailored the experience perfectly to our group’s skill levels, finding the best lines and hidden stashes of pristine powder. His passion for the mountains and backcountry skiing was contagious, making every tour both educational and exhilarating.

Logistics were seamless—accommodations were comfortable, transportation was hassle-free, and every detail was thoughtfully arranged. Whether it was adjusting plans based on weather conditions or booking the best spots for local cuisine, Ueda-san and Evan made sure we had the best possible experience.

If you’re looking for an exceptional backcountry skiing or snowboarding adventure in Hokkaido, I can’t recommend Evan and his company enough. This trip was hands down the BEST adventure I’ve ever been on! Evan and Kazan are absolutely incredible hosts who go above and beyond – from handling all the travel details and tickets to giving you insider tips on the best terrain and the most amazing local dinner spots. The skiing itself is unreal, and with their expert knowledge, you’ll always know the perfect spots to hit based on conditions and crowds. They don’t just drive you to and from the mountain and dinner – they take care of everything, including personal photography and keeping your energy high all day long! There’s no comparison; this experience is in a league of its own. I can’t recommend it enough – trust me, don’t book ANY other vacation until you’ve done Niseko with Kazan!
