Craigieburn Food & Nightlife

Craigieburn Food & Nightlife

Après at Craigieburn is at the bar at Koroheke lodge which opens from about 4pm. You don’t have to be staying overnight at the lodge to join in with the great club atmosphere and have a yarn and a beer or two. To get there from Middle Basin you can ski to the right along the “tree trail” (if it’s open). Otherwise you can come from the skiers right on a trail. If in doubt, ask one of the locals for directions.

For dinner, we’d highly recommend Flockhill Lodge (near Castlehill). It has a fantastic restaurant for breakfast or dinner. For an establishment that is “out in the middle of nowhere” (well not exactly considering the proximity to the ski areas), the dinners are unexpectedly gourmet. They could even be described as awesome! Light meals are available, or the main courses are a carnivore’s delight with good quality steaks. You can also just sit in the lounge area and order drinks, with a good range of NZ wines available.

If you’re in Springfield there’s a cosy café in the main street for day-time fare. The café sells appetizing goodies - the sign out the front reads “Yummy Homemade Food” and “Home Made Pies” which sums it up pretty well. The prices are very reasonable and you can eat in or take-away.

The Springfield Hotel has cheap bistro meals or very budget take-away meals. The décor is very shabby chic minus the chic, but a very friendly environment nonetheless with some colourful characters for company. It is also quite children friendly. In addition to meals, the pub is great for après and into the evening.
