Driving to Togari Onsen

The easiest way to get to Togari Onsen is to drive yourself, and this provides the flexibility to pick the best day and also visit the many nearby ski resorts. The drive is very easy and considering the resort is at low elevation, it doesn’t include any steep hairy roads. Parking is free.

The Togari Onsen Ski Resort phone number for GPS navigation is 0269-65-2359, although instead of fully trusting your GPS, once you get close to Togari just follow the signs (our GPS was trying to take us further up the hill).

Train and Bus to Togari Onsen

You can get a Shinkansen to the Iiyama train station (see Hyperdia for routes, fares and timetables), and then there are regular buses (that take 15 minutes) between Iiyama station and Togari.

Probably a less desirable option is to catch a local train from Iiyama to TogariOnsen, and then there are 5 minute bus rides to the resort but they are very irregular. Otherwise a taxi won’t cost much, but I’ve read that there’s a geisha fee. Does that mean you have to pay more if you’re a geisha?!

Getting Between Nozawa Onsen and Togari Onsen

Nozawa Onsen and Togari Onsen are only 10km apart, a drive that takes about 20 minutes.

If you’re staying at Nozawa Onsen, you can catch the Nozawa Togari Madarao Bus (No-Ta-Ma-Bus) that connects the three ski resorts. There are sometimes other weekend shuttles or your accommodation provider might be willing to drive you across to Togari. Alternatively it’s not far to catch a taxi.
