Where is Ogna Hotaka?

Ogna Hotaka aka Oguna Hotaka Ski Resort sits on the southeast flanks of Mt Hotaka (Hotaka-yama, not to be confused with the other bigger Mt Hotaka, Hotaka-dake in Gifu). Ogna Hotaka is located in the Tone District of Gunma Prefecture, 15.5km by road northwest of the little village of Katashina.

Driving to Ogna Hotaka

You’ll want to have a car to get to Oguna Hotaka unless it’s just for a day trip from Tokyo on a Saturday, or you’re on a multi-resort guided tour. You’ll need to drive between your Katashina accommodation and the ski resort, and it’s highly likely you’ll also want to visit other Katashina ski resorts.

Oguna Hotaka is located about 185km northwest of Tokyo, which is about a 2 hour drive depending on traffic. The ski resort is about 28km from the Kanetsu Expressway Numata Interchange, and the telephone number for GPS navigation is 0278-58-2133.

Parking is free and when it’s busy on Saturdays you may have to park in the lower parking lots which are serviced by a shuttle bus.

It’s not really feasible to get a train to Ogna Hotaka because it is an hour drive from the closest train station.
