Getting to Tsugaike

Where is Hakuba Tsugaike?

Tsugaike is one of the Hakuba ski resorts. It’s officially located in Otari and the actual town of Otari is 7km to the northeast of Tsugaike, whilst the town of Hakuba is 8.5km south of Tsugaike. Although not interconnected, Tsugaike is located between the Iwatake and Norikura ski resorts.

Getting to Hakuba Tsugaike from the Airport

If you’re staying in the Tsugaike Village, there are a few ways to get there from the Tokyo airports:
  • Hakuba Airport Bus with Nagano Snow Shuttle from Haneda or Narita Airport.
    • The evening schedules offer an accommodation drop-off option (select Otari accommodation).
    • The day bus drops off at Hakuba Base Camp in Echoland. From there you can catch local buses to Tsugaike, get your accommodation to pick you up, or get a taxi.
  • Get trains to Minami Otari train station, then a bus to Tsugaike
  • Get trains to Hakuba then bus to Tsugaike, or get your accommodation to pick you up from the Hakuba train station.

Travel to Tsugaike from Elsewhere in Hakuba

It’s easy to travel to Tsugaike from other Hakuba ski resorts and villages and vice-versa. There is an extensive network of buses around the Hakuba Valley and your accommodation will be able to provide you with timetables.

There are free resort-run buses to Tsugaike from:
  • Happo route - Happo Gondola, Lower Wadano (Mominoki and Tokyu hotels), Iwatake Gondola
  • Echoland route – Hakuba Base Camp, Happo bus terminal, Iwatake Gondola
There are also Hakuba Valley shuttle buses (free for those with Hakuba Valley lift pass or Epic Pass) that connect Tsugaike with:
  • Cortina, Norikura
  • Goryu, Hakuba 47, Echoland, Happo, Hakuba train station, Lower Wadano, Iwatake
The Otari Night Bus operates a few schedules in the evening between Happo bus terminal, Tsugaike, Norikura, Cortina and the Minami-Otari train station.

Driving to Tsugaike

There are four car parks for the Tsugaike Ski Resort. The Central Parking Lot near the Tsugaike Gondola and the kids’ park is the most popular and it attracts a fee on some days. Parking lot #1 at the south end of the village is about 200m from the Kane no Naru Oka Slope, which is one of the most mellow slopes for novices, and it also attracts a fee on some days. At the very top end of the village is the Champion slope parking, which is free, and you can ski down to the gondola from there. Otherwise, the free parking lot #2 is a few minute’s walk from the gondola.
