About Sahoro Resort Hotel

The Sahoro Resort Hotel offers resort-style accommodation with good facilities, and provides an adult-friendly alternative to staying at the Club Med Sahoro. This Sahoro hotel is also a great option if the structured format of a Club Med is not quite your style, and it also provides the advantage of a more Japanese cultural experience.

Where is the Sahoro Resort Hotel?

The Sahoro Resort Hotel is nestled amongst the forest at one of the base areas of the Sahoro ski resort. The hotel is pretty much ski-in ski-out via a beginners’ run, being only 50 metres walk between the ski locker room and the bottom lift.

The Sahoro Resort is located in Tokachi in central Hokkaido, 167km east of Sapporo and 130km from the New Chitose Airport (Sapporo International Airport).

Hotel Rooms

The hotel has 165 western style rooms. Each room has 2 twin beds, a couch that a child could potentially sleep on, and ensuite with bath.

Standard twin rooms are moderate in size, whilst the deluxe twin rooms are a fraction bigger.

Facilities

One of the drawcards of the hotel is the lovely onsen; a great spot to soothe the body after a hard day on the slopes. In addition to indoor hot baths that overlook the snow-covered trees, there are outdoor baths (rotenburo). There are also saunas in the onsen area that come complete with a TV so you can catch up on the latest with the game shows! Aromatherapy and massage treatments are also available.

Other facilities and services include:

  • discounted lift tickets
  • laundry services
  • wifi
  • a souvenir shop that sells souvenirs, snacks, and a few ski and snowboard accessories
  • kids center providing child care for ages 1-6, half day or full day (not including lunch time)
  • free car parking

Dining

Buffet breakfast & dinner is included in the package and you can upgrade the dinner to a course dinner with extra cost.

The Hana Mori Kuma Café is an Italian café with lovely ambience that is open for daytime dining, après drinks and dinner.

French cuisine is served at the Sahoro Garden, an upscale restaurant open for morning and afternoon tea, lunch and dinner. The service is of a high standard and the wine and meals are excellent; some of the French food has a little Japanese twist!

Yukizasa Restaurant serves traditional Hokkaido cuisine with a good choice of fresh local seafood and noodles.

The Japanese and French restaurants operate on an irregular schedule, and their opening days are not confirmed until shortly beforehand, sometimes as little as one month in advance.

A Great Place to Stay

04/02/2014
The Sahoro Resort Hotel was a very enjoyable place to stay, but it was a bit of a mixed package. The twin room we stayed in was rather plain and dated and in line with our expectations considering the tariff. Meanwhile the communal areas of the hotel were leaning towards being more upscale and have either been refurbished or held their age better. For example the quality of the restaurants and food far exceeded the quality of the hotel rooms.

We enjoyed après drinks at the Bear Café (Hana Mori Kuma), our dinners were fantastic and they provided a great buffet for breakfast. They even had decent coffee, which I know is hard to believe for a Japanese hotel!

We were the only westerners staying at the hotel which was rather nice, and several of the staff spoke English, so it was very easy to communicate as required and they were super friendly.

The hotel was a very relaxing place (especially in comparison to the relative craziness of Club Med) and the onsen soaks were a beautiful highlight of our stay. There wasn’t much to do beyond ski, soak and sup on dinner, but that was all we needed at the time. The hotel feels rather isolated which could be a good or bad thing depending on your perspective.
