We had high hopes for Les Sybelles. Huge ski area, modern lift system, affordable lift pass, allegedly unpretentious and accessible from numerous villages. Sounds awesome. What we found was far from what we envisaged. Now I will say straight up that we visited during the heights of the French mid-term school holidays in February 2025, so one needs to expect a certain level of humanity, but what we came across was well beyond that. We skied over 40 resorts in the Alps during season 24/25 and Sybelles won the award for ‘Most Disappointing Overall Ski Experience’.

There are loads of fantastic ski resorts in and around the Maurienne valley, however for powder hounds, Les Sybelles is not one of them. We will endeavour to go back here one day out of peak season and when the snow gods provide some a fresh cold mantle of crystal goodness to lower elevations. Until we do, visit at your own risk.

We cannot get enough of this place. Feels like an old skool mountain village that caters for modern skiing……because that is exactly what it is! The cheese, air, wine and lack of pretension mean for a cool, chilled and fun time whatever the season.
