A Haven in the Belleville Valley

26/07/2020

St Martin de Belleville is the quiet gateway to the skiing in the Belleville valley. A lovely French Alps village, it thankfully lacks the crass development so common in the larger French ski resorts. The village’s position off the main road, avoids all the through traffic heading further up the valley to Les Menuires & Val Thorens.

The skiing at St Martin is not extensive, but it is lift pass & trail linked with Les Menuires (and of course the 3 Vallees) so the options are vast up & over the valley. Beginners will love the cosy learn to ski area in the village & the long slopes from the ridge. The new gondola from the village is a beauty.

Connections into some awesome Meribel terrain are excellent from St Martin, almost better than from the Meribel villages!!! Handy free ski buses are useful to connect to Val Thorens or to utilise at the end of the day if one finds themselves too far away to ski back. Distances from the top of the Belleville valley in Val Thorens down to St Martin are only 10km 'as the crow flies’ but are many times longer by ski lift & trail.

Stay in St Martin if looking to experience a real French Alps haven in the world's biggest ski resort.
