Project X Cat Skiing Adventure
Cat Skiing Deep Powder in a Remote Location
Are you prepared to be a part of one of the world's greatest guided cat skiing adventures? Project X is in the snowiest part of the Caucasus in a remote part of southwest Georgia, with huge terrain & full of deep powder. Come and discover this incredible ski area! In just its forth full season, Project X is still a ski adventure of the highest order.
The Project X area is located in the remote mountains midway between the large city of Batumi & the ski resort of Goderdzi. This new (ish) area was scouted years ago but is one of the last to be opened up to cat-skiing. Expect lots of tree runs, open slopes, steeps and lots of snow! The remote nature of the area means a lot of adventure and uncertainties. Therefore, the freeriders involved need to be able to draw on sufficient experience. It also makes sense to carry skins in your backpack - just in case! Since the region is undeveloped, and even though the guides are highly experienced, no one ever skied this region prior to 2022, and the guides who know their way around have only spent a few seasons here! Surprises are possible, even probable! This is catskiing at its most raw, all about the powder, big fun lines and good times. Get on board for a catski experience totally different to Bakhmaro!

Snow & Terrain
The location of Project X is in the 'Little' Caucasus of Southern Georgia, relatively close to the Black Sea. The region has Georgia's best combination of awesome terrain, plus deep, consistent snow-pack. The proximity of the sea to the high peaks of around 2,700m provides abundant moisture, and when combined with cold temperatures, deep powder from December to early March.
During the first winter season (22/23) a large part of the new area was explored, but there are still areas that have not yet been skied. There are tree runs and open slopes and, above all, lots of snow! The logistics are highly adaptable: on stormy days, we ride directly from the hut door int othe forests, and on good weather days, the snowcats can go up to 2,600m. The view of the Black Sea is included for free!
High levels of snowfall, especially at the beginning of the season provide generally excellent conditions. Tree runs at nearby Bakhmaro with names like 'Big in Japan' , indicate the potential quality of the ski experience here. Having been there, we can vouch for it! The numbers of return clientele are another indicator! Cat skiing in the main part of the season at Bakhmaro can get booked out quickly - another reason to give Project X a go!
Lodging & Food
Accommodation at Project X was built in 2022 and added to in 2025. It consists of two alpine lodges consisting situated in a beautiful open meadow below the tree line. The area is protected from wind and avalanches. These rustic cabins offer a cozy living and dining space. The bedrooms feature bunk beds for two to four riders, hosting a total of four groups across the property at any one time. Although the layout is basic and shares a limited number of bathrooms (each with a shower, toilet, and sink), a welcoming level of comfort, including an outdoor sauna cabin is ensured. Whilst this is 'back to the roots' of the Powderproject operation, and despite the remote location, there is heating, wifi, ample hot water supply and electricity. Plus of course there is a sauna! And anyway, it's all about powder... so who cares!!
For sustenance, a local team of cooks and kitchen helpers prepare the food fresh every day. In the morning there is a rich breakfast with muesli, fresh fruit, egg dishes, homemade jam, homemade bread and local specialties. The group will take a packed box lunch for eating 'in the field', so there is no time lost during the day. On bad weather days, we can always come back to the accommodation and warm up with a hot soup or Burano (a warm cheese dish). Evenings are dedicated to authentic Georgian
cuisine - hearty, varied, and served family-style. Dinners include classics such as lobio (traditional bean stew in a clay pot), khinkhali (filled dumplings), tolma (stuffed wine or cabbage leaves) and the famous khachapuri (cheese bread). The meals are served in bowls and on plates, so that everyone can take what they like. This style of dining ensures that all dietary requirements, such as vegetarian, gluten-free, or lactose-free, are effortlessly covered.
Ski Ability
The Project X tour is only for advanced & expert skiers & snowboarders with resilience & backcountry experience. Please be honest about your skills & experience! You must fall into one of the following rider categories:
- Advanced - Sporty riders who go on a regular basis on powder-trips and want a lot of riding and little waiting.

Getting There & Away
Located in southwestern Georgia, the closest major Georgian city to Project X is Batumi. The Project X lodge is off the road (northside) to the Goderdzi ski resort from Batumi. A pick-up and return transfer to the cat-skiing area from Batumi is included in the tariff. Most flights into Batumi during winter are limited to via Istanbul. The flow-cost carrier 'Pegasus' is not recommended to Batumi. A better entry point is Kutaisi which has direct flights, less impacted by weather from a wide range of Europe & Uk origins. Batumi is 2hr by road from Kutaisi.
