Sun Valley Inn

Sun Valley Inn

The Sun Valley Inn is a hotel in the Sun Valley Resort Village that oozes historic charm even though it’s been fully renovated. The exterior remains delightfully European and the interior has been very elegantly appointed with décor and furnishings that are also European inspired.

The Sun Valley Inn is very deluxe whilst being a little more modest than the nearby Sun Valley Lodge that’s particularly luxurious. (NB Rooms at the Sun Valley Lodge can also be booked via this page, or as part of a Sun Valley ski package).

Where is the Sun Valley Inn?

The Sun Valley Inn is located in the Sun Valley Resort village, which has two hotels plus self-contained lodging, shops and a few restaurants.

The Sun Valley Inn is 2.6 miles from the River Run base of Bald Mountain (the main part of the Sun Valley Ski Resort) and 0.7 miles from the base of Dollar Mountain (the beginners ski area). Both ski areas are connected via free buses from the Sun Valley village. Buses go every 15 minutes between Sun Valley Village and the River Run base of Bald Mountain.
The hotel is 1.6 miles from the town of Ketchum which has a good range of restaurants, bars and shops. An on-demand shuttle service is provided between the hotel and town in the afternoon and evening.

Superb Stay

12/03/2019
Our stay at the Sun Valley Inn was superb. It’s a delightful hotel that’s been beautifully renovated to give it a facelift whilst not losing the essence of its historic charm.

Our beautiful king room was huge and had delightful decor, the bed was divine, and it was so quiet.

We really enjoyed the lounge bar adjacent to the Ram restaurant. The ambience was lovely and the selection of appetizers was excellent. Another night we headed to the Village Station which was full of families enjoying the good food at reasonable prices.

Whilst the bellmen and lounge staff service was excellent, the front desk service was lacking somewhat. For a high quality hotel it was surprising that the check-in process went for half a minute and she didn’t provide any information about the hotel (and there was no compendium in the room). Most things we could figure out for ourselves, but it took a day to realise there was a pool and it was only after a day of bringing our ski equipment back on the bus that we realised that we could store it at the River Run base. And the one question we did ask, she gave us incorrect information. Also the internet didn’t work most of the time for about 3 days, and the front desk staff gave the impression that this was not of great concern.

The location is somewhat peculiar. Being the first destination resort in the US, the concept of slopeside lodging probably wasn’t a high priority. So whilst the inn is located at the Sun Valley Resort, it’s not near the actual Sun Valley ski resort. Dollar Mountain is close by (but not easy walking distance) whilst Bald Mountain (the main ski area) is a 20 minute bus trip away. The inn’s location in the cute village is a plus, although there is only a handful of shops and only a couple of evening dining options. Whilst not conveniently located to either the restaurants in town or the ski resort, it was relatively easy to get around via the frequent bus system and by the evening car rides provided by the bellmen. And the inn is not unique, because no Sun Valley lodging is within easy walking distance of the River Run base of Bald Mountain.

The circular hot pool was a highlight! It had the temperature of a hot tub and was 30 times bigger than a hot tub and so relaxing. Apparently there are nice views from the pool but it was dumping with snow!

Overall we were very impressed with the deluxe accommodations of the inn and could readily recommend this property.
