Ride Shiga Day Powder Tours
Ride Shiga is a guiding company based in Shiga Kogen. They are a team of veteran guides and instructors who love and are passionate about winter sports.
Whether you are looking to be shown around the massive ski area of
Shiga Kogen (which consists of 19 ski areas), or you want to explore beyond the boundaries or Shiga or other nearby resorts such as
Nozawa Onsen,
Madarao and
Kijimadaira, Ride Shiga is a great option.
They offer Sidecountry, Backcountry & Touring options depending on how much work you want to do to get your turns.....however the greater the effort, the greater the reward!
The season typically starts in early January (but can start earlier) depending on snow depths in the backcountry and trypically run through to early May.
Guide to client ratio is max 8 guests per group with 2 guides.
Minimum guide qualifications are AST2 or equivalent and both Japanese & English is spoken.
Sidecountry Tours
Sidecountry tours are ideal for those who prefer to use the lifts with little to no hiking required to access powder stashes in and around the ski areas. Be mindful however that there are quite a number of people doing this these days so you may not get absolute fresh snow every run. Ride Shiga will do their very best to use their local knowledge to get you the best powder on the day.
Backcountry Tours
With competition for fresh powder becoming more prevalant, a backcountry tour is the best way to guarantee freshies. By using a combination of lifts and hiking / skinning, you can get further away from the ski areas where most people don't normally venture to. Whilst you might not get as many runs as the sidecountry tours, the quality will be far beyond.
Touring
If you want to get away from the ski areas (and other people) all together, Ride Shiga also offer guided touring days where little to no lifts are used. These tours are ideal for accessing pristine powder whilst enjoying all the mountains have to offer.
Resort Tours & Lessons
Ride Shiga also provide ski & snowboarding lessons for beginners & upwards. They also offer in-resort resort tours for Shiga Kogen which can be done in conjunction with a lesson. See more information about
