12-Day ULTIMATE Powder Highway Safari

Step into a winter world of mountains as far as the eye can see, towering spruce trees buried under a heavy blanket of snow, and everything silent as the falling snow muffles all sound. As your tips dig through the snow you throw a big turn between two trees, coming to a stop and catching your breath. In the distance you hear the delighted yelp of another skier, and then your buddy pulls up next to you, gasping for air and grinning from ear to ear. This is winter in the Kootenays, and this guided ski/ snowboard tour is your chance to live every snow lover’s dream. Welcome aboard your trip of a lifetime, where you will spend ten days exploring deep into the mountains of British Columbia visiting Kicking Horse, RevelstokeRed Mountain, Whitewater and Fernie Alpine Resort and with the help of your local guide you are in for the behind the scenes tour.

On this guided tour you will be skiing with a genuine local who has spent year after year exploring and finding the local gems. You will have VIP access to the best runs and secret stashes on each mountain. You will have the opportunity to soak in a hot springs cave, and dine at the best restaurants in each town. You can rest knowing that everything is taken care of, with minimal driving time and maximal fun.

This tour is suitable for anyone looking for more than the ordinary ski vacation. If you see yourself being immersed in the adventure of a lifetime, making new friends, mingling with locals, and getting deeper into the mountains than you thought possible than you have found your dream trip. You can make contact and then everything is taken care of so all you have to do is 10,000 squats (just kidding but seriously!) and come ready for a good time. The mountains have terrain for everyone so this tour is suitable for all levels of skiers and boarders. The guides can arrange lessons, rentals, snowshoeing, cat or heli skiing, or perhaps a spa day during your ski tour.

If you love winter and you love to explore, this may be the ultimate trip for you!

You can join this tour as a solo traveller, a couple, small group or even book an entire tour with a private group of up to 12 guests. Please make a booking request for a quote for your private group.

Ability

This tour is designed for intermediate to advanced level of skiers and boarders, however beginners are also welcome to join a tour as all of the mountains visited have facilities for beginners including lessons.

For intermediate skiers & riders, the guides are qualified instructors and whilst "progression" is not the main object of this tour, they will be there to provide coaching tips to those that want them.

The ultimate aim will be to help & encourage intermediate & advanced skiers & riders to tackle some of the ultimate off-piste runs at each resort.

Terrain

All of the terrain accessed on this tour is within the resort boundaries on-piste and off-piste. You will have the choice of skiing with or without your guide and the rest of the group as much as you want.

Itinerary

This tour starts with a pick-up at your hotel or airport in Galgary and ends with a drop-off at your hotel / airport at Calgary.

Adventure tours have a lot of moving parts.  This is a rough idea of what to expect, though exact details may change as we work to create the best possible experience for you.

Day 1- To The Mountains!

Meet your new ski friends as we pick you up from the Marriott Downtown Hotel’s comfortable lobby in Calgary at 2 pm.  We drive 4 hours to Fernie, BC where the fun begins!

Calgary pick up @ 2 pm from Marriott Downtown Hotel.

Fernie Mountain Lodge for 2 nights

Day 2- Ski Fernie

Explore Fernie’s incredible 5 epic bowls and 1 alpine peak, each with their fair share of secret lines, tree runs, and wide open powder slopes.  There is nothing like a weekday powder day at Fernie!

Day 3- Ski Fernie

Didn’t ski all the powder on the first day?  Come back for another round of putting your signature track on some of the best laps Fernie has to offer with your guide to show you the way.   After skiing we hop in the van and head 3.5 hours west to Nelson, BC.

Prestige Lakeside Resort for 3 nights

Day 4- Ski Whitewater

If skiing is like gliding on water, than skiing Whitewater Ski Resort is like going off Niagara Falls in a barrel… NAKED.  This place gets big dumps and that’s why we love it!  Ski endless tree runs that were seemingly hand crafted by the shred gods to delight you with every turn.

Day 5- Ski Whitewater

Another glutinous day of skiing pow through picture perfect trees.  It’s so quiet here that your heartbeat is almost deafening when you stop and wait for your buds.  Nelson is home to a ton of hipsters and hippies, so the dining is pretty legendary with farm to table restaurants, pubs, breweries, and “Boho” diners on every corner.  Enjoy some free time exploring the town!

Day 6- Ski Red Mountain

This morning we head 1.5 hours to Rossland, home of Red Mountain, home of freeskiing in Canada.  Seriously.. this is where it all began.  The terrain begs you to let loose and get the powder flowing over your ears as you rip through rolling meadow after rolling meadow of under-rated and seldom shredded pow! No one seems to know how amazing this place is, which is our little secret.

Prestige Mountain Resort for 1 night

Day 7- Ski Red Mountain

Another day of paradise as we ski the trees, bowls and open slopes of Red Mountain.  Enjoy lunch on the sunny deck of Paradise Lodge, and finish off the day with a local beer in Rafter’s Bar, which has a legendary status in ski literature.  After the ski day we hop in the van and transfer 4 hours to Revelstoke, with a stop for dinner and a soak in some local hot springs enroute.

Sandman Hotel  Revelstoke for 3 nights

Day 8- Ski Revelstoke

When early Swiss mountaineers surveyed the railway, a lot of them settled in Revelstoke, creating a ski hill.  It was the massive mountain and the bottomless snow that attracted them here over a century ago, and it’s the same attraction to this day.  Spend the day skiing the multiple alpine bowls, hiking to secret runs off Subpeak and exploring hidden away tree lines to runs with naughty local names.

Spend the night exploring Revelstokeon your own with some great restaurant recommendations

Day 9- Ski Revelstoke

Revelstoke has far too much terrain to conquer in one day so we have another day to take a crack at it.  You’ll love the snow and the views, but you might not love the run “Kill the Banker” so much.  We will see how you fare! Sample some local beer while boasting to the others in the group about all the air you got when they weren’t looking.

Day 10- Ski Kicking Horse

This morning we wake up bright and early and hit the road through Rogers Pass for Kicking Horse.

Rogers Pass is an incredible place to travel through, with majestic peaks in all directions and over 140 avalanche paths that affect the highway and railway.  Hopefully the peaks turn orange at sunrise!  Once we get to Kicking Horse the real fun begins.  We have spent the last 8 days getting you ready for the unbelievable alpine terrain at this behemoth of a mountain.  Hike with your guide to Terminator Peaks for some sneaky lines, or elsewhere to secret runs that we can’t even name on here!

Prestige Inn for 2 nights

Day 11- Ski Kicking Horse

Kicking Horse is heaven on earth, so we spend another day skiing the steeps and powder lines at this resort.  The snow stays so soft here, because most of the terrain faces north!

Day 12- Last but not Least

Today we check out and begin our trip back to Calgary but the fun isn’t over.  We stop in Banff for a final soak in the hot springs, which have been said to have healing properties in the mineral waters that brought people here for thousands of years.

You can ride with us to Calgary or hop off in Banff if you would like to extend your trip to ski in the Rockies.

Calgary drop off at 2 pm.  Hotels and airport.
