Best Accommodation in Lake Tekapo

POWDERHOUNDS.COM25/08/2012
The Peppers Bluewater Resort is a really lovely place to stay in Lake Tekapo. It doesn’t have the pure luxury you might find with some of the lavish Wanaka accommodation, but this upscale property is many steps up from staying in one of the old motels in Tekapo.

We stayed in a one bedroom apartment (villa) with lake views. The balcony was a lovely spot to take in the fantastic views, but this wasn’t really necessary as the views were just as beautiful from the bedroom and living area.

The whole apartment was really large. The living area was spacious, the bathroom was huge, and the bath itself was also massive. Who needs to go to the Tekapo Springs for a soak when you can relax in tranquillity in the bath at Peppers!

The Rakinui restaurant was rather nice. The food menu possibly lacks a little creativity, and we found the restaurant service somewhat lacking so it’s not the fine dining experience you might find in Queenstown or Wanaka, but it’s potentially the best dining experience in Lake Wanaka. It’s definitely worth having dinner here at least one night, and the other Lake Tekapo restaurants are all within a 5 minute walk.

The resort doesn’t have many facilities. The general aim is to get out and explore Tekapo and the surrounding areas. Paid internet access was available via a 3rd party provider, and whilst it was fine on weekdays when it was quiet, the internet almost came to a grinding halt on the weekend when the resort was busy.

Despite a couple of minor inadequacies (which are very reasonable considering this isn’t a 5 star resort), we absolutely recommend the Peppers Bluewater Resort. We’d definitely want to stay there again!
