Change of Ownership

The Appi Rocky Inn has seen a change of ownership since we last visited the inn, and the owners couldn’t be more different. The former owner was a party animal whereas the current owner is rather shy. The new owner has made some changes to the inn to make it a little classier and has changed the focus of the lounge bar area to that of craft beer (which was pretty expensive!).

We stayed in a small twin room with ensuite bathroom, and the comfort of the beds has improved, although there were strange pillows with a hole in the middle of them.

Breakfast was simple yet very nice and they cooked the egg and bacon on the grill over the fire. Breakfast also included rice, miso soup and coffee.

Appi Rocky Inn remains an easy place to stay at Appi Kogen with very affordable rates.

Simple But It Did the Job

We quite enjoyed our stay at the Appi Rocky Inn. A highlight was the communal area where we gathered with our mates for sake and beers. The owner was a bit of a character, which added to the entertainment!

The accommodation was simple. We stayed in a triple room with a private bathroom, and were a little glad there were only two of us in the room because it was rather small. With no drying room and the need to dry our boots, it added to the tightness. The beds were not particularly comfortable and the décor very basic, but it was in line with our expectations considering the inexpensive tariffs.

The hot spring bath was nothing particularly special, but it was nice to soak the weary muscles at the end of the day.

We got a lift up to the ski resort during the day, but the inn was also within reasonable walking distance (without ski boots on) of the resort to go there for dinner, activities or to get supplies.
