Itinerary & Skiing

The tour explores a new part of the Dolomites each day, and only the groomed pistes. Of the six ski days, five are guided by local, qualified instructors, and one day is free for you to choose your own adventure.

Every ski day starts after breakfast at around 8.45am, and whilst based in the multi-faceted Alta Badia ski area, the extensive Dolomiti Superski lift & trail network is utilised, plus local transport, to visit the many fabled ski resorts & ski circuits of the region.

In terms of skiing, there are over 1,200kms of linked pistes over the 12 differing ski areas, each with its own distinct character. Stylish Cortina, with steep pistes and Olympic history, exclusive and elegant Alta Badia, wild Marmolada glacier, fast & furious Kronplatz, open & unhurried San Pellegrino, and the largest standalone ski resort in Italy, Val Gardena. Each offers outstanding scenery, culture and history, pistes of groomed corduroy perfection, superb Italian gastronomy at decent prices in an array of gorgeously conceived mountain huts, complete with deck chairs for a bit of sun catching.

Famous ski experiences like the Sella Ronda, Hidden Valley and Great War Circuit can be included on any day of the tour and take in resorts even further afield like the fantastic Civetta.

Skiing on each day is aimed to finish at around 4.30pm so you have until dinner to take advantage of some ‘me’ time. There is one day off per week to either free ski, relax or go on a small adventure of your own (or with some of your new friends!).

For detailed information on the skiing & overall program, see the Itinerary tab.

Lodging & Meals

Beautiful hotels with single-occupancy double rooms plus ensuite for each guest are a feature of the tour. The Hotel Antines is the tour base for most tours, however the 7th to 14th March tour date is based in the more luxe environs of the Hotel Savoy & Hotel Ciasa Tama. Regardless of where you are staying, the facilities are outstanding and include all breakfasts & six dinners, full bars & lounges, plus superbly equipped wellness centres complete swimming pool & sauna.

Lunches will be at one of the many mountain restaurants/rifugi that dot the region. Afterward an aperitivo (or two) will be had at a local bar before heading back to the hotel. One dinner (not included in the tariff) will be arranged fro the group at a local pizzeria.

For more info about the hotels & meals, see the Lodging tab.

Ski Ability, Fitness, Instruction & Gear

Ski (& snowboard) abilities need to be at least lower intermediate to upper intermediate/advanced.

To enjoy the trip to the maximum, you need to be reasonably fit and active. You will be expected to ski roughly six hours a day, sometimes slightly less, sometimes slightly more. The days are punctuated by a morning coffee/loo stop and lunch.

The daily itineraries are meticulously planned and timed. Whilst the operator tries to accommodate everyone, once ON one of the day tours away from the hotel, they cannot always provide an early ‘get out’. Each day is a round trip with time and lift constraints and as such all the group’s skiers need to be able to complete the circuit. Any health/injury issues are to be disclosed at the time of booking.

Daily ski instruction with English speaking, fully qualified FISI female ski instructors is undertaken for an hour on five mornings. Aside from the one-hour session, the instructors will be on hand all day, every day, to advise you on your technique should you need it.

Ski & snowboard gear (including helmet) are not included in the tariff but can be rented from a shop near the hotel in Alta Badia. Make a request with the tour operator when booking. Of course if you have your own gear, please bring it!

Getting There & Away

The tour is based in the Dolomites village of La Villa, Alta Badia. Participants can make their own way to the hotel (where there is free car parking) or make use of the included private transfer from Venice (VCE) or Treviso (TSF) airports. Venice airport is a useful entry point for travellers arriving from flight origins beyond the UK & Europe, whilst the nearby Treviso airport is handy for low-cost flights from UK &European origins. The private transfer is for specific flight arrival times & dates. Any transfers outside the specified dates/times will not be covered by the tour tariff. At the end of the tour you will be dropped back at the airport in time for your flight home.

Itinerary for 8-Day Women-Only Dolomites Ski Holiday

Each tour week runs to a similar itinerary but with daily variations to the ski route/destination based on the snow & weather conditions, plus the group's ability & wishes.

DAY 1: Arrival, Transfer & Welcome

Upon arrival in country, once you’ve collected your bags at the airport, simply follow the airport plan you have been sent to walk to the pickup point. You’ll be in your shiny private Mercedes van on the way to your accommodation in no time.

Once in resort, you will be met by the WoW team at your hotel accommodation for check-in. Your holiday includes a tasteful room with single occupancy, so you have plenty of room to stretch out. Once you’ve settled in, been shown round to the ski room and spa areas, meet up in the bar area for a very Welcome Drink, an introduction to who everyone is, and plans for the first ski day. The WoW team will run through the most fundamental details and then you’ll head off for dinner.

DAY 2: Finding Your Ski Legs ...

After breakfast, at roughly 8.45am, you will be taken to collect any necessary ski equipment & ski passes. The first ski day is taken very easy, knowing some people may not have been on skis for a whole year. You will be taken to the main lift where the group will meet your lovely local ski instructors. They will be with you all week. Throughout the week, they will provide you with some formal ski instruction for roughly an hour every morning. This instruction will focus on ONE aspect of ski performance every day, building up to create a whole ski package as the week goes on. You might be asked to do some ski drills and exercises, or to adapt your skiing to compensate for certain snow conditions. Thereafter, we’ll be setting out on the day's itinerary, with the instructors on hand all day to remind you individually of what to work on.

Each day your ski lunches are prebooked, so that no queueing for tables is required, though sometimes you may have to wait 5 minutes or so. On this first ski day, you’ll be staying local and the rifugio chosen will require only a short ski home after lunch.

DAY 3 to 7: Exploring the Dolomites

Each day, the group will attempt to ski in differing resorts. The ski pass you ask required to purchase is a Dolomiti Superski pass, allowing skiing in any of the 12 Dolomiti Superski areas.

There is a van for transport to (& from) the best itineraries, and each day's route assessed considering the group level, snow and weather conditions. You might go to Cortina, or to Kronplatz, or to Santa Cristina in Val Gardena to ski La Longia, the 12km descent through the valley, or to the incredible Hidden Valley at Lagazuoi to pick up the horse tow at the end of the descent. There is so much to choose from.

As a general rule of thumb, and throughout the week, the preference is to start early, stop for mid-morning coffee, and take a late-ish lunch so that the afternoon ski is shorter. We find that an early lunch interrupts the day, and we’d prefer to take advantage of good early snow conditions and not having an afternoon rush, especially if the snow is tricky.

Lunch venues are based on the best food available in the ski area chosen that day. The guides definitely have favourites.... i.e. there is only ONE place for pumpkin soup!! These may be chic mountain huts or traditional venues, but the prices will be competitive and the food excellent.

Once back at the van or at the main lift, roughly around 4pm, there might be a stop for an aperitivo on the way home, a spot of retail or just drop you at the hotel to unload your kit to take to the ski room, so that you can go for a drink, enjoy a swim, or relax in the spa.

On a Tuesday or Thursday evening, a local pizzeria will be booked for dinner to get you out of the hotel so that the group can all eat together and giggle under different circumstances. The wine often flows!

The Wednesday is your day off to free ski at your leisure, sleep late, or do whatever you please. The guides reserve the right however, in bad weather, to swap over the Wednesday to another day.

At the end of the final ski day you will be advised you of your departure time and reminded to settle any outstanding bar bills at the hotel. The WoW team will also be on hand all day every day to answer questions and help out.

DAY 8: DEPARTURE

After a wonderful breakfast, you are picked up and transferred to the airport. Say goodbye to the Dolomites. You will be back!
