Ski Terrain & Vertical

The Troll Peninsula is magical due the amount of skiable terrain in relatively compact region. Most of the mountains are skiable with a fabulous terrain mix of open, low-angle alpine bowls & valleys to steep couloirs and faces. Due to the Troll Peninsula's location in the northern latitudes just below the Arctic Circle, there is no tree skiing.

Depending on the group and the terrain skied, an average of 8 runs per day can easily be achieved. Whilst the mountains on the peninsula rise up as high as the 1,445m Dýjafjallshnjúkur (the peninsula’s highest peak), most peaks skied are in the 1,200 to 1,300m altitude range. It is possible to ski runs all the way from the peaks to the seashore. Peak to sea runs will average around 800 to 900m vertical. The average heli ski run ranges between 700 & 1,200m vertical drop.

Snow Quality

The snowpack is predominantly coastal and in the springtime (April/May) ranges from powder to corn snow. Stable avalanche conditions are the norm, allowing for steeper runs to safely conducted (if the group wants!). The corn snow in May allows for more intermediate skiers & snowboarders to enjoy heliskiing in the region.
