Entire mountain range to ourselves!

The whole group riding
Every single day we had an entire mountain range to ourselves. Twelve snowboarders. Two local Kosovan guides. One Mint instructor. The Wolf, our ever-reliable cat driver. And absolutely nobody else.

The only tracks we saw all week were our own. Most days we moved into new zones, putting fresh lines into untouched faces that hadn’t been ridden since it last snowed.

On a normal trip, just one of those runs would have been “the best run of the holiday.” Here, we were riding that quality again and again, lap after lap.

In the Alps, a run like this would be tracked out in 20 minutes. In Kosovo, we had it to ourselves all day.

During our week, avalanche risk meant sticking mostly to terrain under 30 degrees. Terrain choice reflected the snowpack and conditions, not ego.

For strong intermediate off-piste riders, it’s ideal terrain: confidence-inspiring angles combined with serious scale.

The snow was changeable. We were incredibly lucky to find pockets of excellent powder on almost every run but this is real mountain terrain. Occasionally you’d hit a windswept section or an unexpected firmer patch. The ‘home run’ often delivered just about every version of snow in one descent. It was a proper mountain experience with exceptional powder woven through it.

A huge thank you to Art, our Kosovan host and owner of Nord Freeride. Aswell as being our host, Art coordinated logistics and was our lead guide on the mountain. His calm decision-making, knowledge of the terrain and obvious pride in the Sharr Mountains shaped the entire week. Danny, a qualified mountain guide and an excellent skier, acted as our tail guide and was another genuinely lovely person to spend time with. And then there was The Wolf, our snowcat driver. Always waiting for us at the bottom of each run, ready to take us straight back up for another lap, meaning maximum time riding and very little standing around. Together, they created an experience that was professional, personal and connected to the mountains.

That progression helped enormously. Going into a cat-boarding trip can feel intimidating, but having that foundation, and Dave, our excellent MINT instructor, riding with us meant there was a shared level of confidence and understanding across the group. The atmosphere was supportive rather than competitive, which suited both the terrain and the backcountry setting.

Nord Freeride offers scale, solitude and exploration in remote terrain in the Sharr Mountains where your group will probably be the only riders in the range that day.

Standing at the top of a completely blank face in total silence, watching the first rider draw a clean arc across untouched snow and knowing those are the only tracks, is something most snowboarders rarely experience.

Real mountains. Real decisions. Real variation. And run after run that would have been the highlight of any normal trip. If you’re considering Nord Freeride in Kosovo, it’s worth it. Having an entire mountain range to yourself is something most snowboarders only get once if they’re lucky.

Fun Experience

09/02/2026
We experienced a very enjoyable freeride trip with a strong value-for-money proposition. The overall concept places a clear emphasis on a positive group experience, including social evenings, grill nights, and nights out in Prizren. Everything was included in the price: transfers, accommodation, food, and guiding (excluding drinks, which were available at very reasonable prices).

Skiing conditions varied due to weather and slightly wet snow at times; nevertheless, suitable terrain and good snow quality were consistently found. The guiding offers an authentic and strongly local mountain experience, rooted in deep familiarity with the region and its terrain. The guides are professionally focused on skiing or snowboarding and demonstrated clear strengths in route choice and snow selection, enabling many enjoyable descents.

The guiding approach reflects the profile of dedicated ski guides, with an emphasis on riding quality, flow, and a high number of descents. Terrain choices were made conservatively and typically below 30 degrees in steepness, with very few rocks and good accessibility. This supported confident skiing for the entire group and proved well suited for intermediate freeriders. The focus was on long, flowing runs rather than extreme or highly technical terrain.

Safety equipment was complete, modern, and handled in a structured manner at the beginning of the trip. Avalanche equipment was provided in good quality. With two guides for twelve guests, the terrain and conditions were managed attentively. The guides demonstrated sound awareness of terrain characteristics and avalanche-related factors and selected lines accordingly.

Catering was fresh and adequate, featuring local Kosovar cuisine with a strong focus on meat. Lunch was provided as a takeaway sandwich. Accommodation at the villa was very pleasant and contributed positively to the overall stay, although minor organizational challenges occurred, which are to be expected in developing regions.

Guests should be aware that this is a more adventurous, off-the-grid experience compared to classic alpine destinations, which forms an integral and appreciated part of the trip’s character.

Special thanks to Danny for the guiding and to Art for the overall management.

I had a catskiing adventure with Nord Freeride, and it was an absolutely amazing experience.
The snow conditions were really good and the guides always where able to find the best slopes with untouched snow especially through some awesome bowls which where many and we changed it every day...

The guides, Art and Dani, were top-notch — super skilled, fun to be around, and spoke great English.

The snowcat performed flawlessly, and the food was a real highlight — all fresh and locally sourced, especially the dairy products. The lodge was cozy and comfortable with a nice modern touch. It’s not a luxury resort, but it has everything you need after long days in deep snow.

What really makes it special is:
1. The combination of great people especially the organisers, socials such as Prizren old city night out, Grill night by the fire etc..
2. Untouched huge terrain, every day was a different mountain and we where the only group on this huge area so it really felt like a pure backcountry experience.

A fantastic trip all around — I’d definitely come back.

Great Fun

Overall, a great and memorable trip!
We were a group of 10 people on a 7-day package. Their shuttle came to pick us up at the airport. The first day was just a relaxing day at the hotel.

The snow was amazing — lots of fresh powder! It was very cold in February, but still manageable. What I really liked was the terrain: each day we went by bus and then took a snowcat to different mountains, so we never rode the same terrain twice — it kept things exciting and never boring.

The food was excellent (very fresh and local), though I’d recommend adding some salad options. Beer was super cheap at the restaurants, and we ended up having some every night. The rooms were great — very warm and comfortable.

Considering the cheap price of the whole package, the quality and experience were outstanding. Overall, an excellent trip! I’d just suggest a bit more organization for transportation, as we had to wait around two hours at the airport.

Just returned from the five day cat skiing package with Nord Freeride. Had a great time.

Conditions improved every day, and had a blue-bird powder day to finish. Epic.

Danny and Donatt were expert guides, good company, and spoke excellent English. Art led everything else, from driving the cat, giving the safety tutorial, liaising with the lodge restaurant & accommodation, handling transfers, and sorting the various issues that arose (mostly the guests' fault!). No mechanical faults with the snow-cat.

As other reviews have said, the food was fresh from a nearby dairy farm and absolutely delicious. Accommodation was comfortable and modern - don't expect luxury and you won't be disappointed. It's all about the skiing, snowboarding, and camaraderie, which were top-notch.

My first cat-skiing experience, so nothing to compare it to, but an unforgettable winter adventure. Highly recommend.

Nice People, Some Setbacks

18/02/2025
I participated in the 4-day package from February 2 to 6, 2025. In the end, it turned out to be a fantastic experience. Unfortunately, the snow conditions were not great (mostly crusty, no powder at all, and there was a lack of snow in the lower parts due to rain). We also had two days of fog, which I understand can happen in the area.
There were also some issues with the snowcat: it only worked for one day, then broke down. We had to wait for a replacement snowcat, but that one also broke down, forcing us to cut two catskiing days short. On top of that, on the second day, they had an accident with the shuttle bus.
So, there were quite a few inconveniences, but Art and his incredibly friendly team made up for them with great effort and a fantastic attitude. I had a great time with them and with the group of participants. The location was very nice—a farmhouse with simple but genuine food and beautifully renovated rooms.
Considering the competitive price, I still think it was a good deal, and I’m sure Art and his team will work on fixing these issues in the future to make the experience even better.

Very organized. Artan the guide is very friendly guy. The hotel is not big, but very old school and classic. The food is organic coming from the 2200ft cow meat.
The best of this trip were terrains are virgin, no one had touched them before , and very wild mountine. Every day new terrain, we were never bored because everyday we had to ski in new terrain. Also they send us in a night life club one of the days with free beers, or alcoholic drinks and live music. It was fun really. I would suggest the transportation to be quicker. Overall I would recommend. One of the most affordable and fun catskiing I did in Europe.
