Salzburg.... The fortress, the old town, birthplace of Mozart, the beer, the strudel and of course the views of the mountains. Welcoming locals, easy to get about on foot, and a great place to base yourself for your next ski trip. It has everything you need. It is a must on any visit to Austria.

Best City in Europe

There is nothing to hate about Salzburg & everything to love. Whilst Innsbruck is our favourite European ski city, Salzburg is our favourite European city full stop.

The reasons are simple. The combination of location, mountains, history, culture, castles, bars, restaurants, hotels, transport links, activities & nightlife is simply unbeatable. The range of ski resorts within a few hours train ride is amazing. World class resorts at Gastein (incl the super freeride locale of Sportgastein), Schladming & Zell am See are just a taster. Austria's answer to La Grave, the unique Krippenstein, is on one the world's best train lines through the Salzburg lake district (Salzkammergut) near the tourist honeypot of Hallstatt.

Wandering through the incredible old town & hills of Salzburg is wonderful. Ending up at Augustiner Brau Stuebl for a stein of beer poured from a freshly tapped wooden barrel is priceless. Such is Salzburg. Add it your next (or first) visit to Austria.
