Don't Forget Fendels

02/11/2022
In a region replete with awesome skiing (think Kaunertal Glacier, Serfaus Fiss Ladis & Nauders), it might be easy to forget to ski Fendels, but don't ............ forget that is!
Fendels may be comparatively small but skis BIG. Off two main lifts one can plunge a full 920m vert on or off piste. That's nothing to be sneezed at.
Lots of family friendly skiing is available, as is a cracking sledding trail. On powder days the Plangger T-bar allows access to a sweet set of routes down off the flanks of the Gamskopf all the way to the village.
The village of Fendels is compact and retains its Austrian Alps charm and rural vibe. We love that there are spots where the Hammer ski lift goes across a still used road - shows the resort is still a 'real' place, not a manufactured destination!
Fendels is not far off the main valley road but it can be an icy climb up. A better way up from the Oberinn valley is via the village of Ried-im-Oberinntal. Just jump on the access gondola up to Fendels (included in the affordable lift pass price).
We stayed nearby in the town of Pfunds, which proved an excellent base to explore the surrounding resorts for a week, including going to the crazy-weird Samnaun in Switzerland for a day trip.
Don't forget Fendels!
