Prestige Lakeside Resort

Prestige Lakeside Resort

Nelson Prestige Lakeside Resort Review Some of the historic hotels in Nelson are nice to look at, but to truly feel comfortable it’s nice to stay in a modern upscale hotel. The Nelson Prestige Lakeside Resort and Convention Centre definitely fits the bill. This fine 4 and half star resort has all the modern conveniences that you would want and need. And unlike some Nelson hotels, the Prestige has essential features such as comfortable beds and easily controlled heating.

Where is the Prestige Lakeside Resort and Convention Centre? The hotel is situated at 701 Lakeside Drive in the town of Nelson, so it makes a great base for skiing at Whitewater or cat skiing. As the name suggests the hotel resort is located on the shores of the West Arm of the Kootenay Lake. The waterfront location can be well appreciated from the restaurant, bar and lakeside rooms with views of the lake and Elephant Mountain.

The Prestige Lakeside Resort is only a 4 block walk from Baker St, the main street of Nelson, and if you’ve been out for a big dinner in Baker Street it’s an easy roll back down the hill to the hotel! The hotel is also well located to take a stroll on the lakeside walkway, visit the shopping mall, or ride on the Heritage Streetcar that arrives at the front entrance to the hotel.

The Prestige Lakeside is just down the road from its sister property, the Prestige Inn Lakeview Nelson.

Hotel Rooms The resort hotel offers accommodations ranging from standard hotel rooms up to luxurious designer suites. The building runs parallel to the lakefront so half the rooms have lake views whilst the others have city views.

All rooms have king or queen size beds, a sofa or seating area, fridge, coffee maker, 42” plasma TV and various other amenities. Kitchenette suites have basic cooking facilities and are fully equipped with crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils.

We stayed in one of the rooms on the Prestige level (the 3rd floor). The huge room was beautifully appointed with upscale furnishings, a delightful sofa and had little extra touches like fluffy bathrobes. The views across the lake were delightful and when the wind was blowing, the soft clinking of the boards on the yachts was very relaxing. A small balcony afforded further views of the water. The king sized bed was gorgeous, incredibly comfortable, and it was a little too tempting to lie there for hours, watch TV and order room service. The bathroom was stylish and included a small television. The bath was somewhat small but the huge shower rose had all the bells and whistles, and some nice bath crystals added to the experience.

The Prestige also has a range of luxurious suites that include a living and dining area, and features such as hot tubs and private decks.

As a guide to rates, a deluxe room costs from $160 to $240 per night, and a Prestige king deluxe room costs $230 to $320 (2010 rates).

Resort Facilities The Prestige Lakeside Resort has plenty of facilities. Examples include:
  • An indoor swimming pool
  • Hot tub
  • Prestige athletic club
  • Convention centre
  • Complimentary high speed internet
  • Laundry service
The resort also has an on-site hair salon and the Shalimar Day Spa which has been voted Nelson’s number one health spa seven years in a row. The day spa offers a range of treatments at very reasonable prices.

Dining/Bar Frisco’s Steak House is located off the lobby of the hotel and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. During the day, the views across the lake are delightful and in the evening you can appreciate the cosy décor and the intimacy of sitting at one of the high backed booths. The breakfast menu is varied with a range of healthy options and yummy cooked items. The dinner menu is also very varied and includes steaks, seafood, and salads.

Next door is Manhattan's Waterfront Lounge. As the name suggests this cosy bar also overlooks the lake and on warm days you can take to the waterfront patio. The bar is cosy and intimate and it is lovely to perch in front of the fire or in one of the armchairs. Sip on a martini, slurp a cocktail or scull a beer. The lounge menu has burgers as well as some of the menu items from the restaurant.

The Hip Drip Coffeehouse is open during the day for simple meals, snacks and coffee.

Of course if you don’t have the energy to leave your hotel room the hotel also provides room service.

Why Stay at the Nelson Prestige Lakeside Resort? The Prestige Lakeside Resort provides the highest quality accommodations in Nelson BC. With extensive facilities, good dining and drinking options, and the awesome location on the lake, you can’t go past the Prestige Lakeside Resort.

A Very Nice Establishment & Great Service

This is a great place to stay when visiting Nelson. It has everything you would expect from a resort hotel with the added bonus of beautiful views over the lake (and even the sound of water lapping on the shore).

The staff are very friendly and the room service food is great.

The restaurant and bar are also very cosy and a great place to hang out ot the end of a day.

About the only downside is that it is a few blocks walk to the main street which can be a bit of a struggle on those cold winter nights.

The Powderhounds highly recommend the Prestige Lakeside Resort
