Family friendly, amazing on a powder day

I happened to ski here 4 days after a 17" dump of ultralight powder on Family Day weekend (US President's Day weekend). Our first impression riding up the lift was why hadn't anyone skied the powder in the trees on either side of the primary lift? The answer is that they don't typically get that many big storms so all the expert powderhounds skip this ski area while driving to the big names on the Powder Highway. This is a family oriented ski area with lots of runs for beginner to intermediate skiers. Kimberly is predominately skied by families with younger kids. However they still have plenty of steep runs for the advanced to expert skiers on the back side of the ski area. Even though 3 days passed since the storm those runs still had lots of minimally tracked powder and the trees were nearly untracked. We were completely surprised and delighted with our visit to Kimberly. So if you happen to be in the area when a big snowstorm rolls in, skip the big name resorts, like Fernie or Kicking Horse, and ski here instead. You won't have the crowds and you can enjoy the deep powder for days.

Great family hill, have been skiing there for years. They don’t receive as much annual snowfall as some places so don’t expect fresh powder, however it does happen still. But they have great groomers and great tree skiing even when lacking the fresh stuff. Cheaper than Fernie, and usually no lift lines.

Be careful, these guys are adding inaccurate information to their snow reports Dec 18/2019--21cm base ugly, today 43cm base .but it did not snow last nite. With Xmas coming you gotta get the base up there or you get cancellations etc. Way to go Mr. Funston, you have the best story telling crew in the East Kootnenys.

We have spent the last eight winters at Kimberley and have watched the management of the hill go downhill.Used to be they groomed a number of runs for families which relieved the pressure of the more varied terrain for the rest of us. Now they groom very little, 12/75 runs on Easter Sunday 2018 which in itself tells one that all they are interested in is your money and you end up with beginner skiers in areas they should never visit. On top of this there are a few slow skiing areas which a large percentage of the skiing population tend to ignore the worst being the bridge over Northstar road, as the only way to downhill access the quad chair and the village /parking lot areas it is a poorly thought out run. It is totally out of control and the management does nothing to try and make the situation better.
To top it all off they dropped Easter eggs from a helicopter Easter Sunday but have been using the excuse they have had equipment difficulties with their groomer fleet, possibly the money for the helicopter should be spent on ensuring your hill is ready for the skiers who PAID to use it.

Barely any snow mostly ice. The prices are over priced, and when I asked if they could help me with adjusting my binding they wouldn't and made me rent skis. It would have been fine but they still made me pay full price. And most of those skis are either found on the hill by the people that work there lost by skiers or donated.

Kimberly is a great place for family fun! The resort offers lots of beginner stuff, but snow can be an issue sometimes, especially later in the season.

The town of Kimberly itself is pretty quiet. Again, though another cute and safe Kootenay town.

Kimberly was okay but was a further drive than Fernie and not as much annual snowfall as Fernie.

One of the days I was there, the fog was so thick I couldn't see 15 feet in front of me. It was trippy.

They had this really sweet Italian restaurant named Perry's pizza. I'm glad I went, but I will probably not be making a return visit.
