Stellar heli skiing 3 day package

A fun trip and overall great experience. We went the first week in March-snow quality was good but not exceptional compared with Colorado Rockies. Guides were experienced, knowledgeable, and friendly. Portions of each day were impacted by low clouds, and one day was eliminated completely. We made up the deficit (in vertical meters) the other two days however. Accommodations and meals were excellent, and the entire Stellar staff were a joy to deal with.

stellar heli-watch out if it's not sunny/bluebird

All the groups were doing the same terrain.. this was their north facing "bad flying weather terrain" and it was average at best.. the guide said they do the south facing side..on the other side of the small valley..dec- jan.. I booked 5 days out.. called to see if they could squeeze me in.. it looked like a possible clear weather day..but as usual, weather changed.. I got suckered by all their instagram clips of the pros they feature.. they should make that clear that regular guests won't even sniff that sort of terrain..they grouped me with a couple that won a free trip on a radio show from colorado..us and another small group were the last to leave the hanger.. 2 other groups flew from the hanger but we had to drive 1/2 hour first..by the time we got our first run.. we had a few untracked lines but it was mostly already done.. we lapped the same run 4 times.. then they took us to probably the worst area i've ever been too.. impossibly tight trees.. I'm snowboarding so it was extra brutal.. the guide said it was her first time in the area..uphill traversing multiple times..brutal..lunch..then the weather cleared a bit.. we went into what 1 guide said was their "goto" zone with a bit better weather..that was pretty good but still having to traverse alot to get fresh lines..they had a good dump 4 days before I arrived so I can imagine if it hadn't snowed more than 7 days out their wouldn't be much left..the couple I skied with had a clear day the day before and they said they were still disappointed in the terrain in the purcells they hit up..(too flat) meanwhile..same day, the pros were scoring incredible lines..as featured on their instagram...same deal returning at end of the day.. we had to drive back to the hanger while everyone else flew back..anyway..still beats working but not even close to being worth the 1600$ US I paid. 20 years ago, I did a week long trip to the bugaboos..it snowed everyday and we didn't do the same run once.. that was the only other heli experience I had to compare with..Thanks and good luck..

Lovely snow (despite it raining in Nelson on the same day)
Chasing the weather
A sexy beast
The coach hard at work
Some open zones amongst the trees
Even though it was raining in Nelson, it had snowed a very nice 20cm overnight in the heli tenure. The weather was very borderline and it was quite miraculous that Stellar could get us out heli skiing. We mostly hung in the trees and as expected due to the weather, we did reasonably short runs. In one day of heli skiing, we only skied one tiny little fraction of the Stellar terrain and along with what we saw from the helicopter, we were impressed!

We had a phenomenal day and the stoke levels were still really high during après-ski drinks at the Kaslo Hotel! Thanks Coach and Jason for an outstanding day!

Pros
• Stellar Heliskiing offers single day and various length multi-day heli trips, so it provides plenty of flexibility to choose what suits.
• The location is ideal to have some warm-up skiing at Whitewater ski resort and/or a nearby cat ski operation (if you book a long way in advance).
• It’s a small operation, so the experience is delightfully boutique.
• Small group heli skiing is the ultimate and increases safety considerations along with terrain choice and freshies. The small heli is agile to get to the best spots.
• Stellar is owner operated and the highly experienced Jason and his team ensure there is attention to detail with respect to safety and other operational considerations.
• Down days are minimal so they can usually get you out skiing despite what Mother Nature throws at them.
• Like many other BC heli skiing outfits, there is a huge variety of terrain on offer and the snow quality and quantity are superb. There is a good reason that a few snowcat skiing operations have set up shop in the region, and naturally with the heli skiing, the upper elevations of the terrain are much higher.
• Stellar Heliskiing is somewhat of a newcomer to the BC heli skiing industry, and it’s relatively unknown because it’s not based near a big trendy ski town, so you have a decent chance of getting a spot without booking 5 years in advance.

Cons
• Kaslo isn’t situated close to any major (reliable) airports so it takes a while to get there, although the same can be said for many BC heli ski outfits.

Pro or Con Depending on Your Perspective
- Stellar Heli Skiing is not based at a remote backcountry lodge if that’s what you’re looking for, although staying in Kaslo would be pretty nice. The town location also makes day heli skiing possible, and arrival/departure logistics much easier.

My experience was epic at Stellar. The guides knew the terrain and were very accommodating. We were fortunate to have a guide by the name of Coach. He was so accommodating and made sure the day was incredible. The skies, gear and helicopter we top quality and the powder was outstanding. I would highly recommend a day at Stellar with Jason and his team. My entire experience from booking, training, skiing and gift shopping was amazing.

First time at Stellar Heliskiing. I was blown away at the diverse terrain, from big wide open moderately sloped bowls to plenty of steeps and challenging features. Jason's crew is top notch and they know every nook and cranny of their tenure setting you up for the best run of your life, EVERYTIME!

Incredible experience from food and lodging at the restored Kaslo Hotel to Over the Top skiing experience. You can bet I'll be making another trip to Stellar Heliskiing in the near future.

Heliskiing with Jason at Stellar was such a great experience overall! The terrain is awe-inspiring with something for everyone - from wide open powder turns to beautiful tree skiing and features for the adrenaline junkies! Jason gets a feel for the level of the group and chooses the appropriate terrain.

The food was amazing! Nothing better than a delicious meal to power up for a few more runs.

The pilot topped it off with giving us a fun adrenaline ride, being his humorous, friendly self, and being prompt for pick-ups when we were ready for our next run. I am saving for my next trip with Stellar for sure!

I have been a few times. Can you imagine the legendary deep Kootenay powder and a mix of Alaska-like lines, big old growth trees and alpine larch and big open glacier runs. Loved it and will certainly be back for more! The terrain is extremely diverse and highly entertaining.
