Retallack Cat Ski Packages

Retallack offers cat ski packages that come in either 3, 4 or 5 day powder odysseys. Or you can stay as long as you like so long as you’ve got the budget to support your powder addiction!

Lodging is provided at Retallack Lodge which has rooms with a private bathroom. The lodge has plenty of areas for socialisation or relaxation, depending on what takes your fancy. Join the merriment in the bar, make the most of your competitive streak in the games rooms, retreat to the quiet lounge, soak in the hot tub, or enjoy a massage. It’s all good!

A package includes accommodation, four meals a day (including après food), the guided cat skiing, and use of an avalanche transceiver.

Arrival is by 6 pm at Retallack Lodge the evening before the start of your trip. Departure is after skiing / boarding on the last day of your trip.

Retallack Lodge

Retallack Lodge is named after the mining town that used to stand on the site where the Retallack accommodation is now located. Hopeful prospectors still flock to the area, but these days they are there to mine for powder.

The lodge provides quality accommodations and in line with the laid back vibe, the décor and furnishings are not swanky or overly extravagant. The lodge attracts a young crowd or those who are young at heart, probably because you have to be fit to ski at Retallack, so the culture of the lodge is upbeat with an element of a party scene.

An advantage of the lodge is that it’s accessible by car, rather than being reliant on snowcat, helicopter or snowmobile to get you there and back. So you can pack multiple suitcases. If you want multiple bathing suits for the hot tub, or you want to pack your hot rollers for your hair, or even a ball gown – you can!

Lodge Rooms

The lodge sleeps up to 24 guests across 11 different rooms that have single or double beds. The rooms are simply furnished, but most importantly each room has a private bathroom with shower. The beds are very comfortable, which is well appreciated especially if the body is a bit fatigued.

The lodge has multiple common areas so after skiing you can chill out if you want, or hang out in the bar and party on.

The facilities are extensive and include an inviting living room with comfy leather armchairs, couches and a gigantic stone fireplace. The dining room is like the social hub where people congregate before and after each day of cat skiing; it has a fabulous vibe and the food is totally gourmet. Centrally located in the lodge there is a cosy little bar where you can buy a range of alcoholic bevies at very reasonable prices.

There is a great games room with pool table and table tennis and an entertainment area with bean bags, a massive flat screen TV and DVD.

If the body needs a bit of TLC, there is an outdoor hot tub (which is also a great place t socialize and have a beer), a sauna and there are massage services available from professional masseurs.

They have fantastic internet access and one phone line however in the guest manual they state that anyone caught doing work will have to wear a pink frilly ski outfit the next day – I love it!

The lodge also contains the essential drying room for ski boots and gear and a waxing and tuning room for you to tune up your equipment.

You can't leave Retallack Lodge without a souvenir from their great little retail shop.

Breakfasts are filling and a great way to get fueled for the day with hot and continental breakfast options.

When ravenous skiers and boarders return from ripping up the powder, après snacks are served outside in front of a raging fire. These might include soup or pizza, or something else to warm up your insides.

And then there’s dinner, the highlight of the Retallack culinary experience. Dinners are three course affairs with reasonably gourmet offerings. Retallack markets the dinners as fine dining, and whilst they are very nice home cooked meals, they might not quite fit into the haute cuisine category.

Grog cannot be BYOed, but Retallack sell a range of great local and imported wines. They also sell a broad selection of beers and spirits.

What Stands Out About Retallack Lodge?

The set up of the inviting common areas is very conducive to the fun culture and atmosphere of the lodge.

Cancellation will insure the prepaid non-refundable travel costs before you depart. Interruption covers off your lost trip and unexpected out of pocket costs if your trip is interrupted after you start your trip.

What can happen? Missed connections, schedule changes, your own accident or injury, a travel companion or family member becomes ill, or even loss of employment. These events could cause you to cancel your trip or cause a disruption. Generally, Trip Cancellation costs about 5% of your trip cost and it’s worth the peace of mind. It is highly recommended that all guests purchase Trip Cancellation/Interruption.

Important Notice:
Backcountry or regional restriction/closure or evacuation due to avalanche risk, state of emergency or civil authority, that cause you to interrupt or cancel your vacation is not covered by insurance and will not be reimbursed or refunded by Retallack. Most people need a Visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to fly to or transit through Canada. (US Citizens will only require a passport).

Be prepared: Apply for an eTA as soon as possible. Most applicants are approved within minutes. However, there is the possibility of a delay or a denial.

It is recommended you arrange your eTA as soon as possible to pre-determine your entry status. Retallack, is not responsible, or liable to make any refunds, for guests who are denied an eTA. Note that a denied or delayed eTA or denied entry at the Canadian Border is not covered by Travel Insurance.

We require a 25% non-refundable deposit upon rebooking, an additional 25% by May 1 and the remainder of the 50% balance on October 1.

To keep the dates, we must receive your deposits by these dates. We will not hold dates without a deposit. There will be no exceptions to this policy. A snowcat can operate in virtually any type of snow and weather and Retallack has a backup snowcat in the event of a mechanical breakdown. In the rare case that skiing must be cancelled due to mechanical failure, Retallack will provide ski credits for the time missed, which can be applied to a future trip. All credits have a two-year expiration date (see CREDIT POLICY below). We will not provide a refund or credit for accommodation or meals that have been used.

There is no guarantee on the conditions that you will encounter during your trip, and Retallack does not provide refunds or future ski credits if we are unable to ski or snowboard due to poor or hazardous conditions of if you cannot or do not want to ski for any reason. Retallack does not provide refunds for weather or snow stability issues; health-related issues; cancellations due to border crossing problems; personal or family emergencies; illness or injuries. Retallack reserves the right to cancel tours at any time, and future credits will be given in this situation at Retallack’s discretion. Under no circumstances is Retallack responsible for the clients’ inconvenience or travel expenses.

In the event that Retallack issues a credit to a guest, unless stated otherwise, that credit will expire two years from the date of issue. For example, a credit issued on December 15, 2014 will expire on December 15, 2016. In the above example, this timeline allows the skier to utilize the credit for the remainder of the 2014/15 season, the full 2015/16 season, and the beginning of the 2016/17 season. Credits are held in the guest’s name, however they can be utilised as follows: put towards the cost of a future trip for the guest; sold to another skier; or gifted to a friend or family member. In order to continue to be valid, the transfer of any credit (either by sale or gift) must be communicated to Retallack by e-mail, or in writing, by the original recipient of the credit.

Retallack cannot make exceptions for any reason including: weather issues; health-related issues; border crossing problems; personal or family emergencies; illness or injuries and is not responsible for any lost skiing time (including missing ski runs from having to undergo a separate safety briefing). There is no refund for arriving or leaving early.
