Terrain
The amount of terrain in Patagonia feels infinite, and the guides have plenty of lines to choose from to find the best terrain to match the conditions. Much of the terrain is alpine (above tree line), along with sub-alpine, and there are also some below treeline runs.
The top elevation of the terrain is 2,447 metres (8,030 feet) and runs have an average 700 metres of vertical drop. The Alsur Heliski package includes 6 runs per day for 6 days, although this may be spread across the 8 days. Whilst the heli skiing is held in spring when the weather is more stable, like any heli skiing, there is the potential for no-fly days.
The average seasonal snowfall in the region is 6 to 10 metres (20 t 32 feet).

Where is AlSur Heliski?
Al Sur Heliski is based in Renihue Chaitén at the eastern end of the Renihue Fjord where the Andes meet the Pacific Ocean. Located way down south in Chile in the lakes district of Patagonia, the lodge sits at a southern latitude of 42.32 and about 1,200km south of Santiago by road.
There are a couple of ways to get there. You can get a flight from Santiago Airport (SCL) to Puerto Montt (PMC). From there, transfer to Marcel Marchant Aerodrome and board a charter flight to Reñihué’s private Airstrip.
Or from Puerto Montt (PMC), fly to the town of Chaitén. The team will meet you at the airport and drive you to Caleta Gonzalo, where you’ll board a boat for a scenic ride through the Reñihué River estuary to the lodge. Arrival and departure from the lodge is also available by helicopter. Please get in touch for options.
The remoteness of the area is a major attraction, so it’s worth the effort to get to this piece of paradise.
