Awesome Powder Tree Skiing in Japan

My Japan Powder Culture tour was amazing (Feb 1-7,2026). Jase was extremely organized, and my whole week was full of powder in the trees. The guides all knew the mountains very well and I hope to return yearly for this awesome experience. From the hotels to the breakfast, ski shuttle, awesome tunes and people, skiing all day, lunch, dinner, and then repeat. It rivals the helicopter and snow cat skiing I've done in the past. It was definitely a slice of paradise and the highlight of my year.

A solid choice for mixed groups

The best value is found if you trust the guides to take you where they believe powder would be plenty. And they deliver.
I was in a mixed group with a couple snowboarder friends. That setup is a breeding ground for quarrels and misunderstandings the more snow there is on the forecast. Jason's team managed to alleviate almost all of that babysitting and adapted to our differentiating skill level, without splitting us. So you still get to have fun with friends without fighting! 10/10 attitude as a bonus, both Jason and Naru were my fav guides for the week.

Excellent Japow Experience!

Tom was great to initially help with booking the trip and organizing our private group with accommodations and details for our tour. On arrival we were set up with our rental gear and instructions for the next day. Jase provided multiple daily updates to organize the team with pickup times, dinner arrangements and details on extra curricular activities. We arrived in early February and were treated to great conditions even without having new snow in a number of days. Naru guided us to some secret stashes on our first day, untracked glades that accommodated our group with a range of skills. Mike then treated us to a cultural day with visits to a local coffee chop, walnut pastry restaurant, a great Okonomiyaki lunch in Obuse, the famous Zenkoji temple and market in Nagano, a sake brewery and tasting and lots of insight and details on local culture. We then were treated to fresh japow with Brett taking us around Shiga Kogen off piste for the next two days across a range terrain and always fresh lines without repetition. Great instruction and catered to the group for the best experience. Breakfast was buffet style with a range of interesting options for everyone, many great dinners at multiple local restaurants including the sushi train, and evening activities at local brewery or entertainment at the bunker bar. The hotel was local style with a great onsen to start or end the day. Nearby snow monkeys were an added bonus! Jase and his team have it down to a science and overall we had an amazing trip for our first taste of Japan. Great value and would definitely go back. Highly recommend Japan Powder Culture Tours!

An excellent five days

From the first enquiry the communication and attention to detail was excellent. As intermediate boarders looking for Japow we were at first out of our depth in the close together trees. After this we were switched between guides to get the maximum benefit from powder, space and guiding. The guides discuss the guests and their needs and abilities every morning to best cater for their needs, wishes and safety. The set up is impressively flexible and attentive. Jase is a gifted leader. We wanted adventure, the beauty of Japan and powder and we got it all. We went to four different nearby mountains - all breath-taking and diverse. We stayed at Snow Monkey Lodge, the hub, which was perfect for us - old Japan with tatami and space and an onsen to wash and soak the bashed limbs. The village and walks nearby are stunning. Jase even organised our restaurant bookings (all excellent) and transport there as standard procedure. The vibe is chilled, funny, and fun but under the surface the hard work is evident.

Excellent hard working guides led by Jase

Jase and the guides contributed a lot to our trip.

We had unseasonably warm weather for late February, more like Spring conditions. In those conditions the efforts of the guides really helped us to get the most out of our skiing time.

Jase organised a day of telemark skiing led by Naru which was a highlight for me. Naru is a really excellent and passionate telemarker. Jase found what, I think, is one of very few shops in Japan with telemark hire gear. When two of the telemarking group with big feet couldn't fit the shop's boots, Jase provided two pairs of his own boots! Not having telemarked for 30 years, it was great to do it again with the benefit of modern equipment.

The guides did an excellent job of finding variety and the best slopes. A bit of trees, a bit of moguls and making sure we were on the north facing slopes when it got warm.

Each day there were at least five groups so my daughter and I were each able to choose a group that suited our ability level. We both benefitted from the tips we received. The guides were good fun, patient and knowledgeable.

Jase also did a great job of keeping us entertained off the snow. I very fondly remember a happy group singing Sweet Caroline with gusto on the way home on the bus at the end of a busy rest day spent exploring art, the Nagano Olympic centre and temples.

Japan Powder Culture Tours, thank you!

The 3 days in the snow with your team were fantastic. Even though we missed the snow dump, you still managed to find the best runs! 3 days of amazing tree skiing!! Thanks to Jase, Tom, and all the guides for this amazing experience. It was a party on the slopes and off the slopes. We met fun people and partied pretty hard in the Bunker Bar. Sorry for the Dutch live music😁. Keep up the good work!

Epic Adventures in Pow

Exactly what I came to Japan for! Japan Powder Culture Tours was everything I wanted and more.

Jase, our fearless leader, has cultivated a team of true professionals. These guides work HARD--cutting lines for us and lifting us out of deep pow when we take a spill, all while focusing on safety, improvement, and fun! Jase and his team guide you to the best pockets of pow, all while truly understanding your skill level. The coaching and advice they give along the way actually help you improve, and the energy among Jase and his guides is contagious—they keep things upbeat and fun. The team really maximizes each day on the slopes.

Our accommodation was wonderfully quaint, clean, and the food was great. Heading to the onsen with the boys after a long day on the slopes was therapeutic. I loved the group dinners every night, it was so fun to meet people from around the world. The "culture" part of the tour was a fantastic addition to the slopes. I truly felt that I got authentic and memorable culture experiences in the evenings including shows with skilled local legends (I won't reveal too much).

I highly recommend JPCT, I had a blast. Jase and amazing team—Arigato Gozaimasu!!!

After qualifying for the Advanced crew, we accessed both technical and open areas where the snow was virtually untouched.
All the guides were expert level sharing their knowledge to help you improve each day. It was exciting to see them cut loose when the opportunity was there. Their choices for locations were perfect. Virtually no lift lines.
10/10 for JPCT
See you next season

Safety - very poor, specially the guide/driver behavior. Our driver, while driving a full van in alpine conditions, decided he could read a text message on a phone while driving - very risky behavior.
We did not get a safety briefing until day 4, after guests needed ambulances on day 2 and day3.
Not sure why but the ski rescue seemed unwilling to take an injured guest off the mountain - possibly a poor relationship with the company.
One guide I was placed with lose contact with 6 of the guests one day, only to lose contact with one guest the next day. No briefing at all on how to manage the group and stay in contact with them all. Only one guide out of 5 guides did any safety briefing or directions on how to manage ourselves.
Beautiful skiing but this company has outgrown itself without sufficient processes in place.

I only had 2 days to ski, so it was really important that everything was organized — and Jase delivered perfectly. From breakfast to dinner, my whole day was planned, which meant I could just focus on enjoying the experience.

The tour guides were excellent — knowledgeable, helpful, and fun to be around. Experiencing Japanese powder for the first time was absolutely fantastic, and I got to meet some great people along the way.

Whether you’re short on time or have plenty of it, this is a great option. Everything was seamless, making the whole trip stress-free, fun, and truly memorable.
