Yuzawa Grand Hotel

Yuzawa Grand Hotel

The Yuzawa Grand Hotel is perfectly located in the town of Yuzawa, just opposite the Echigo-Yuzawa train station. This deluxe ryokan/hotel makes a very convenient base to explore various Yuzawa ski resorts.

The hotel is reasonably grand without being grandiose, and it offers nice deluxe accommodation that provides the traditional Japanese feel and decor of a ryokan, along with the many facilities and services you’d expect of a more westernised type hotel.

This hotel is often very busy on Saturday nights during the Yuzawa ski season, so if you plan to travel over the weekend, try and book early.

Where is the Yuzawa Grand Hotel?

The Yuzawa Grand Hotel is located only 100 metres from the west exit of the Echigo Yuzawa train station in Yuzawa Niigata, and bus stops to many of the ski resorts are just near the front of the hotel. The Yuzawa Kogen ropeway is only a 900 metre walk away.

The hotel has ski-to-door access from the Ipponsugi Ski Resort, but keep your expectations low because this is just a tiny beginners slope with expensive lift tickets.

The hotel has a car rental outlet just out the front, and a 7-Eleven convenience store is located across the road.

See the Yuzawa travel page for more information on the location of Yuzawa and how to get there.

Rooms

The Yuzawa Grand Hotel has large western rooms (twin, triple, quad) with a tatami sitting area, or a range of traditional Japanese rooms with futons on the tatami. All rooms have an ensuite bathroom, or you can choose to bathe in one of the beautiful indoor or outdoor onsens at the hotel.

Facilities & Services

The ryokan has a couple of onsen that are just delightful. One of the indoor baths has manmade waterfall features and an outdoor pool has a rock wall and small waterfall.

Other facilities and services:
  • concierge services for transport advice to get to the ski resorts
  • ski and snowboard lockers
  • ski and snowboard equipment and clothing rental shop
  • Japanese garden, complete with a pond and fish
  • Wifi
  • gift shop
  • karaoke
  • massage services

Dining

The hotel has a few restaurants onsite with either Japanese or western fare on offer. Otherwise there is a huge range of Yuzawa restaurants and izakayas on your doorstep.

The breakfast buffet includes a large range of Japanese and western items.

Superbly Convenient Location

29/11/2017
We loved staying at the Yuzawa Grand Hotel. It has so many things going for it for a ski trip: incredibly convenient location with proximity to the train station; close to the bus stops to the ski resorts; a lovely Japanese experience; the beautiful onsen; and plenty of other amenities and services. A few of the front desk staff spoke English and were very helpful with logistics advice.

We stayed in a western room that had a separate tatami seating area so it was huge. It had great heaters in the room for drying things, but like so many other Japanese ryokan style hotels, there were no hooks to hang anything, although there was a small clothes horse.

The breakfast buffet had a huge range of food on offer, and some mornings we just popped over to the 7-Eleven or the station to get something small for breakfast.

Tariffs tend to go up on the ever popular Saturday night, but otherwise this hotel provides good value for money.
