Hotel Marillen

Hotel Marillen

The Hotel Marillen in Hakuba is an Austrian style hotel which possibly has the best location in all of Hakuba with its absolute ski-in/ski-out location at Happo One ski area. It is ideal for small groups and families with rooms catering for 2 - 4 guests. It also has a lovely bar & restaurant on site. The only bad part about Hotel Marillen is that it books out very quickly so you will need to reserve your spot asap!

Where is the Hotel Marillen Hakuba?

The Hotel Marillen is fabulously located ski-in/ski-out at Happo One ski area in Hakuba Japan, and a 2 minute walk to the free resort shuttle bus stop and immediate access to lifts.

It is located in central Happo One village so there are a good number of restaurants and bars right at your door step.

This base area where the Hotel Marillen is located has night skiing and a steep green run, so it’s not ideal for complete novices either.

Accommodation

There are 15 guest rooms on 3 levels which come in 3 room flavours; ideal for 1 - 4 guests per room.

All rooms have a small living space with a small table and chairs, a flat screen TV, a balcony and ensuite.

Half of the rooms face the slopes whilst the others look back towards the village (it is said that the slope facing rooms can be a bit noisy due to the snow makers running at night) and all have a small balcony with views.

Facilities

The Hotel Marillen has free wifi throughout the hotel, ski storage and drying room.

There is a lovely cosy lounge area with fireplace which overlooks the slopes. So if you want to stay in the warm and watch the world ski by, this is a great place to do it.

Ski rentals and lessons are also available from the hotel and there is an on-site laundry.

Restaurants & Bars

The Marillen Hotel has a fabulous restaurant and bar onsite.

The restaurant is bistro-style and serves traditional Tyrolean food; schnitzels and fondue with a great selection of wines available from their own private wine cellar. Meals are available for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Drinks are served from the bar on the front-deck of the hotel (weather permitting) as well as inside the hotel. This is ideal for those that like apres (a drink after skiing) or a place to hang out and have a drink in the evening.

If you get tired of the amazing food here and the awesome hospitality, there are about 20 restaurants and a dozen bars all within a short walk.

Best location in Hakuba

23/02/2013
The Powderhounds have not yet visited this property however we have compiled an editor’s review and ratings based on trawling and summarizing dozens of reviews.

The general consensus was that this hotel is totally awesome! People just couldn't have enough good things to say about it.

Here's a summary:

LOCATION - this is possibly the best location in Hakuba with direct access to the slopes and lifts at Happo One. Plus being in the middle of Happo One Village there are about 20 restaurants and half a dozen bars all within an easy walk.

FAMILY FRIENDLY - the rooms allow for a family of up to 4 to stay under the one roof. Kids are well catered for and with night skiing until 9pm every night, you can just kick back with a nice German beer or a cellared wine in front of the fire and watch them ski by.

FOOD - everyone raved about the quality of the food (particularly the "hearty breakfast"). You can get breakfast, lunch and dinner here plus evening snacks. If Japanese food every day is not your thing, good old Tyrolean schnitzels and sausages might be more your cup of tea!

BAR - there is a great little bar serving drinks in the afternoon and to the evening which means apres is possible (not the norm in Japan). Evidently they even have live music most nights for apres.

SERVICE - people raved about the fabulous service of the Japanese manager and the staff.

ROOMS - were said to be basic but clean with comfy beds (what more do you need?). Evidently the rooms on the slope facing side of the building are a bit noisy due to the snow makers running at night so if you are a light sleeper, request a room on the back side of the hotel.
