Mount Washington is a great ski hill if you know all of the best spots, primarily on the boomerang chair (Outback). This is also a great hill for any beginners; especially children.

It's changed in all the wrong ways

I've been riding here since I was strong enough to stand. My Dad was taking me riding and I always knew it was a smaller mountain but that was okay because there was a place for everyone from little tikes to the most aggressive of riders that want the hardest steep scary stuff, to the bombers that wanna hear the rushing wind as the ride straight down the mountain. The thing was there was a place for everything. A singular place each type gravitated too... since the new owners have taken over I had mixed feelings about a lot of the changes but non the less they made sense at the time, but now that covid's here and the world's really changing the owners of this place have stopped caring what so ever about anyone that isn't brand new to the sport. Like cool an all but you ripped out the bunny hill chair to put dumb carpets in that no one wants to use, so the "high speed 6 pack" is now the slowest lamest chair on the mountain. If it didn't stop once every 5 chairs it at least slowed down for some noob that probably doesn't belong on a high speed chair if he's scared to push off of it when unloading... the entire mountain at this point is one big kitty park. And I could over look that lameness if the accommodation were reasonable but like you can only buy food between 11 and 3 and to top it off you half to be careful what you get. Me and a friend got the same meal and mine was twice the size... he went hungry cus of this after spending 26 on fries an chicken strips, that we had to eat standing outside... on a Wednesday of all days!!! To get a seat you have to go in half an hour early and still wait for someone to leave and snag it before someone else, all just to sit down and shove some food in yeah to get back out there... then there's this bs holiday pricing like yes Christmas an new year's being 120 makes sense weekends being 110 an week days make sense coming up on a dead Wednesday between Christmas an new years and paying g 120 just feels like the biggest go f yourself we don't care... Then you start thinking back to what this place used to be like and honestly NY ticket just cost me more then an entire day trip used to cost me so I will be making the trip over to the main land now if I want to go riding... it just isn't worth the absurdity and awful snow that's completely tracked out by your third run at the latest within an hour of the chairs opening. I used to buy a seasons pass every year, no more that's for sure. An I'm upset righting this, this was my favorite place to come ever since I was a little kid. Big sads. Big let down...

Good Local Ski Hill

28/06/2019
Rather grand views
Nice top to bottom groomer
Some of The Outback is out of bounds
It was our first time to Vancouver Island and we enjoyed spending a couple of days in Victoria before heading up to Mt Washington. It was nice to check it out, but Mount Washington won’t be added to the rebucket list. Despite the Mt Washington marketing team heading to international ski shows over the years, this really isn’t an international ski destination but rather a nice ski hill for Van Islanders to visit.

Multiple locals on chair lift rides proclaimed how lovely the snow was. Each time we tried not to laugh because we failed to see how nice it was. Admittedly we’re powder snobs, and clearly it all depends on your perspective, but it gave us a little insight into how the snow quality must commonly be at Mt Washington. Even though it had only been a couple of days since snowfall, the groomers were quite scraped off and The Outback had so many icy zones that it was terrifying in parts. The terrain out there was very impressive, but it wasn’t enjoyable considering the snow.

Some pros of the resort include its family friendliness, the overall friendly vibe, and the wallet friendly pricing. See our Mt Washington overview page for more on our thoughts on the pros and cons and see our Canada ski resort ratings to see how we compare it to other BC ski resorts.
